If anyone knows anything about antique Swiss watches?

I was going through some old jewelry that was passed down to me. So far as I can tell via online searches, what I have got is a silver fusse F. Jacot Matile silver fusse 15 jewel Hunter's watch dating back to the 1800's.

I was going to toss it until I managed to open the back and read the inscriptions. I guess it's a good thing that I did do that.

So who do you take something like this to so you can sell it for a decent price and not get ripped off? I have a little jewelers around here, maybe they could point me in the right direction? I don't want to get ripped off and I just don't know if there's a good way to avoid that. Guess I will try to find out of there are licenses for such folks? Credentials of some kind? Have it appraised and by whom?

Any thoughts?

Your "1800's" and "1900's" mean "19th century" and "20th century", right? While the latter long-established usage is being eaten away by 'X00's" usage, presumably because it is 'too hard' for people to say a year is in the 20th century if it begins with '19', historians will stick with the long-established usage, if only because otherwise they will have problems in knowing what to call (for instance) the century that began in 1 AD.

The prices do not suggest that the proceeds from selling such a watch will be life-changing - but good luck all the same.

A good friend of mine is a French National living in New York and a watch collector. His collection started as a hobby and is now valued in the millions. He does buying and selling now and then.
