I hadn't seen that, RI. There's not one registered Republican left in our family now. Zero. So I wonder how many others may have bailed? Is that 17% made up of registered Republicans or folks identifying themselves as that?

Yeah, I dunno. When I google it I see the two contradictory polls. Anecdotally, I’d guess Republicans are more like 80% pro-violent revolution. How did I get that? I just listen to them.

The three main differences in the yougov and Marist polls. First, the yougov poll was taken while the storming was ongoing. The Marist poll was taken a day later, after more information about the events were reported.

The second was the wording of the question:

Supporters of President Trump have stormed the US Capitol to protest lawmakers certifying Joe Biden's election victory. Based on what you have heard or read about this, do you support or oppose these reactions?

Marist:

Trump supporters broke into the U.S. Capitol to disrupt the process of certifying the results of the presidential election that showed Joe Biden won. From what you ́ve read or heard, do you strongly support, support, oppose, or strongly oppose the actions of the Trump supporters who broke into the U.S. Capitol?

The third is methodology. Marist is a traditional telephone poll. You.gov uses a panel of internet volunteers who receive small compensation from being a member of the pane.
