Really? Why were so many people testing positive for COVID in my god forsaken state? I just told you I tested positive for COVID along with almost everyone else I know.
you really are doubling down on this whole willful ignorance thing. Not super important, but just sayin': While I believe that you tested positive, I don't believe that "almost everyone you know" also "tested positive". You're just saying that.

They might not tell you this on Fox news, but Covid spreads significantly faster than the flu. Also, Covid isn't seasonal. By the time flu season came around, social distancing and mask wearing was a thing. At times, a thing that substantially slowed Covid. But what substantially slows Covid will have a significantly greater affect lesser viruses. Is that like, incomprehensible to you?

I've had Freshman biology, Ajax, and that's all. You have a medical degree. You should be teaching me how Covid works, and you should be a light to your community, rather than a sniveling little political cry-baby.
Good point Dean Robbers. We’ve had zero flu deaths in Washington so far this flu season (week 14) when we normally would have around 50-100. Of course, Ajax concludes that flu death are being counted as COVID deaths. But we can just go to the CDC webpage and find their combined COVID, flu, and pneumonia chart, and see how huge the COVID outbreak compared with past flu seasons. So, as you say, the lesson is that the things that slow the spread of COVID prevent the spread of the flu.

One can also check excess deaths. The charts really are stunning. And the excess deaths substantially exceed the COVID deaths. Once we get the all cause totals of deaths, we’ll be able to see what those are. My guess is we’re looking at an undercount of COVID deaths. We know it’s not the wave of suicides triggered by unemployment and business closures that Ajax and friends were wringing their hands over, because suicides were down in 2020.

ETA: Ajax’s state reports that just under 10% of its population has had COVID. Even allowing for asymptomatic cases, that’s nowhere near herd immunity.

In other words, you just proved the very thing you are trying to fight against: social distancing and mask wearing, work. You are a complete moron, by the way.
Really? Why were so many people testing positive for COVID in my god forsaken state? I just told you I tested positive for COVID along with almost everyone else I know. And yes we did have to wear masks at work and whenever I went outside. How can you possibly conclude from this that the mask and social distancing worked? Our immune systems worked.
Why are you so determinedly and willfully ignorant and/or dishonest about this subject? There is very good evidence that social distancing and masking helps. Take my state, California, for example. Near the beginning of the pandemic, California was among the very earliest states to flatten the curve, due to following those guidelines. Some called it the "California miracle", and even Trump praised Governor Newsome for his leadership and success in bringing down the rates. Unfortunately California got hit very hard in the third surge of the pandemic due (I think) to a combination of pandemic fatigue and being lulled into complacency because of that apparent early success. But look at California now! California has, by a large margin, the highest population of any state (higher, in fact, than the combined population of 22 of the other states), yet at least 7 of the other states with much smaller populations than ours have more daily new cases than we do. California has the third lowest number of new daily cases per 100K of any state, and the very lowest positivity rate. In addition, 43% of California's population has now gotten 1 or more shots already, and the number of hospital and ICU patients is down dramatically. I don't think it is possible to honestly and reasonably argue that the recommended guidelines plus vaccination are not having any beneficial effect.
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I doubt he graduated high school. I've never seen anyone so anti-education as ajax.

He's an optometrist. The program isn't as brutal as MD, but he has to do the same biology, chemistry, and medical core stuff as an undergrad and grad student. He should be at ease discussing Covid and have enlightening things to say rather than coming across like a bratty twelve-year-old.

DO's actually have to know slightly more than MD's, because they do all the MD work plus a few extra weeks of "osteopathy" (which is kinda strange stuff, but today it's more for out of tradition than serious practice). DO's get a bad rap as being lesser than doctors, but its really about how good the school is. I had friends that were DO's; heard stories like, a star DO student got 98 percentile on his DO boards, then went and got 99 percentile on the MD boards. There were suggestions that some of the respectable state universities were slightly less competitive than they otherwise would be because of quotas to ensure equal educational opportunities. Ajax will like that I said that. I throw it out there in the spirit of providing the marginalized DO's side of the story.

Dean, I think you're, in part, confusing doctor of optometry (O.D.) with doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.).

Morley, I think I did a great job of being unclear. I didn't intend it to come across that way.

the first paragraph was about optometry. complete thought.

The second paragraph was about the DO program.

Ha! Now that I reread, I've got it! Thanks!

Since you have been vaccinated, you know enough to know you are now protected.
Who exactly on your side is admitting vaccinated people are now protected? The only reason I got vaccinated was to keep my job and be allowed to go to work without getting charged for homicide. I've tested positive for COVID and so has all my extended family at this point, long before we had access to a vaccine.
Note that ajax has no problem committing homicide, he just isn't willing to do it if it means he'd be held accountable for it.

Human. Garbage.

By the end of July Brazil will have surpassed the USA in COVID deaths. Their death rate has been skyrocketing for weeks and experts suspect the actual death toll is much, much higher because Brazil doesn't have the capacity to test everyone.

So why Brazil? Well they have a moron Trump like President who still pushes conspiracy theories and fake cures like Hydroxychloroquine. In fact, Bolsonaro depleted their emergency funds last year by ordering million of doses of fake cures pushed by Trump, so now when it comes time to buying vaccines, they're too strapped to provide.
