Thanks for the additional details, DrW!
No precept or claim is more suspect or more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

I'll try to scout that up, Dr. W. but not right away. Later.

While it benefits the greater population to have as many people vaccinated as possible, now that the general level of scofflaw craziness has proliferated, how will that ever be possible? This resistance seems to be encoded in their DNA as strongly as the desire to make moonshine free from gubmint revenoors.
Got to admire the people of China for wearing masks, maintaining social distancing, and refraining from the Young and Dumb dances in Provo Utah. They are now back in full swing as a nation.

I got the vaccine. in my opinion, if COVID doesn't cripple or kill you as with 99% of us, the vaccine will not hurt you either. Just get it and stop giving the left an excuse to impose the yoke of democratic socialism upon those of us who have to work for a living.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

I am of an age where getting the virus is really a bad idea, and an older person in my family has recently been sufficiently damaged to render him incapable of independent living by an attack of the virus that got to him before he could be vaccinated. Happily, I have now had two Pfizer vaccinations, which 'matured' this week, giving me a high level of protection. As a result I have been able to go on a bus for the first time for months, wearing only a standard mask rather than the more solid FFP2 model. Nice! And what is more, I am much less likely to pass on the virus to others. What's not to like?ajax18 wrote: ↑Wed May 12, 2021 1:15 pmI got the vaccine. in my opinion, if COVID doesn't cripple or kill you as with 99% of us, the vaccine will not hurt you either. You really can't bear to acknowledge the benefits of vaccination, can you? Goodness knows why. Your reference to 'the left' is weird since the people who vehemently oppose vaccination are mostly strongly conservative.
by the way, your reference to 'those of us who have to work for a living' as opposed to 'the left' is even more weird. The main driver of left-wing movements nowadays is that working people in countries like the US and Europe have in past decades been thoroughly shafted by people who own vast amounts of stuff, who have got richer and richer without having to do more than count their bank balances while working people's salaries have hardly increased at all in real value, and the share of the national wealth owned by working people has got smaller and smaller. It's you they are talking about!

Is it certain that this disability is permanent, or is there still some chance of recovery or improvement? Regardless, I'm sorry this happened to your family member. I hope improvement or at least partial recovery is still possible. And I'm glad you didn't suffer a similar fate!

Thanks to Morley and Gunnar for the kind thoughts!
This is a man in his late eighties, who was until late January fairly stable in health terms, living in his own house in the same town as his two adult children, and being supported by three 'social care' visits each day who did his shopping and made sure that he was OK. He was mentally pretty elderly, but not suffering from dementia in any obvious sense. One could conduct a conversation with him centering on past events in his life without signs of confusion. It had been an interesting life, with time in the armed services as well as other things. He owned his own home, but was by no means rich.
He got the virus in late January, not long before he would have been due for vaccination, and his hospitalisation lasted four weeks, during which he received oxygen but was never intubated. By the end of that time his body had succeeded in eliminating the virus and he was infection free. After time in what is called a 'nursing home' in the UK, during which he was helped to recover his general health and activity, he has not regained the capacity to leave his bed without assistance or to feed himself. He was assessed by a social worker who (it appear to me correctly) concluded that he was no longer mentally capable to assessing his own situation in terms of risks and his own physical needs, and therefore could not safely return to living alone in his own home. It was decided that he should be moved to a long-term care home in the same town, in which, given his personality and liking for company, he is likely to be fairly contented and his children can easily visit him.
Had it not been for the virus, it is likely that he would have continued living happily in his own home for several more years. If he had had even his first vaccination, his chances of having his life so radically affected would have been greatly reduced.
So get the damn vaccine to protect yourself, certainly. But get it too to protect others from suffering life-destroying if not fatal infections that you may pass on to them, even if your own infection is almost non-symptomatic. And don't say or do anything to encourage others not to be vaccinated.
n!)
There's nothing left wing or right wing about this. It is just simple common sense and basic human decency.
(Of course, at no stage did the National Health Service send him a bill for any of the skilled and devoted care he received. Horrifying, ajax, isn't it? Better to die alone and uncared for than to suffer such Soviet levels of oppression.)
