What would you keep?

Since the mask restrictions are being lifted for fully vaccinated citizens here in the U.S., rates of new cases are coming down and we're on our way to achieving herd immunity (go herd immunity!) what would you like to keep that was put in place during the pandemic?

I think my primary "keepers" would be keeping the hand sanitizing stations in public places, sanitizing grocery carts, and also the plexiglass shields for those who work front desk/front registers in places frequented by the public, and definitely upgraded air handling systems in buildings, schools, and on aircraft.

What would you keep?

I'd love to see them maintain the space between tables in restaurants, but that'll never happen.

I would too, it’s still better than it used to be but at least the outdoor dining here seems permanent.

Disappointing huh??? You've been here for a while sir!
At any point you could've spoken up and said, hey, this place is toxic. You could've spoken up for Ajax. You could've spoken up for the other posters who have been bullied away by the ECHO CHAMBER GANG. Are you upset with me because I'm using the same tactics they use x10 ? All I've done is bring the problem this board has been suffering with for apparently a long time to the surface so it can hopefully be fixed. Apparently you don't approve of the way I went about doing that, which is fine, but here we are, talking about what can be done.
Again, baby steps, let start with not insulting posters personally. Why am I the only poster bringing that up? Today we could all agree to not insult posters personally. 90% of the insults are coming from five people. I've already said numerous times I am willing to quit. I have yet to here anyone else pledge to do the same. Why?

I went to Walmart today for a small resupply and they still have those hand wipe things and a hand sanitation station as you enter the store. I really like to wipe down a cart or basket before I use it. Before that, my wife and I went to the gym and they have wipes for the peeps, which is awesome because there’s so, much, ass, sweat, in a gym. Also, silverback sweat. So, instead of using a towel which is a’ight, you get a big alcohol wipe which at least feels more sanitary.

Masks are ok, in certain situations. When I was in Korea mask usage was common, so I think I was already used to the reasoning behind it. For example, we went to a clinic to arrange physicals and the clinic required masks. I think that’s reasonable.

I'm still up in the air on that, and probably will be until the pandemic ends. I think wearing a mask to a health care facility is something I am likely to keep. I also like the increased availability of hand-washing stations. I'd still like to get rid of shaking hands, but culturally I'm not sure we're ready to give that up. Beyond that, it depends on how the rest of the pandemic plays out.

Virtual meetings, work from home allowing for flexibility in work options. But virtual meetings...that has been the biggest timesaver. Many processes forced to go virtual that I deal with through work had an implementation curve that, now in place, eliminated a lot of wasted time while facilitating transparency in processes and access to information between organizations. I've heard many organizations express interest in revisiting the types of office spaces and support infrastructure now that were dead end conversations pre-COVID.

I don't eat out that often so I don't have strong feelings either way regarding what should change, revert back, or evolve forward when it comes to restaurants. But I know a few people who are still struggling in that industry which suggests some things are going to have to recalibrate for it to stabilize.

I was talking with someone in the playground equipment industry who shared they had came out with hand-sanitizer stations suited for handling the vandalism and abuse public playgrounds endure that seemed like a good idea but also left me with questions regarding security. If my daughter was still in that age group, I'd prefer to bring my own rather than rely on something that could have potentially been contaminated by a crazy person. While it had many ingenious features that secured access I'm not sure how the design addressed the potential for someone to try and inject a substance up into the nozzle. A few clearing squirts and testing it myself would likely be in order were I in a situation that using it seemed critical.

Keeping zoom meetings seems like such an obvious thing, now. In the past, my library director had to find out in advance if enough people were attending our Board meetings, because we can't take any official action without a quorum present to vote. Probably once a year or so, we would have to cancel our monthly meetings due to a lack of quorum. Now, members can attend from anywhere, with at least audio, including from their car if stuck commuting. Once this year, a very kind member briefly joined from her bed where she was resting while experiencing symptoms after her second vaccine, just so we could pass resolutions on various items. A new member is re-starting the in-person part of her job and wouldn't be able to stay on the board due to her lengthy commute if we didn't have virtual meetings. Luckily, we will be able to keep her on the board now, which is significant. She has much to contribute and without zoom meetings it wouldn't be possible.

Ironically, before zoom meetings and before my participation on this board, there was one incident where for several months boycotting a meeting (excuse: can't get there!) so that a lack of quorum would result in no official action was used as a political strategy. That nonsense has gone by the wayside with zoom meetings, so I think they are here to stay.
