I'm trying to sort this out in my mind. I looked at the photos using the link that Boaz supplied. The link is to the LDS news service (or whatever it's called). Does this information go out to national wire services or is it simply a website for LDS to view?

In any case, what's wrong about doing a faith promoting piece like this?

Trying to put myself in the place of the folks doing the sand bagging, those reporting it and the critics as well. Not getting very far with it.

I question the motive of such acts in the context of the organization. The source of this story...wait...the ONLY source for this story is a press release. These things just don't happen. They are planned/staged.

If I wanted notoriety in a community, I would build a wing onto a hospital or school. I would build a park, etc. The hucksters, they usually stage publicity stunts.

I disagree. They may get PR from it but they do it because they believe in Christian service.

That may be, but someone went to the trouble and expense of making a mass of matching yellow t-shirts with "Mormon Helping Hands" and the church name and whatnot on them and distributed them to the missionaries, and that was part of the constant hunt for PR. I'm not impressed.
