The face of sin today often wears the mask of tolerance.

So it is a sin to tolerate them (Monson) but a commandment to love them (Jesus)?
;-)
In my book, Christ Trump's Monson!

I think everyone is missing Monson's point. He is urging people not to tolerate sin. In fact the LDS have been told that they are at war (both individually and collectively) with sin. We're told not to tolerate it but to excise it from ourselves even when we disguise the sin within us as tolerance. If I accept the idea that a certain sin is okay because 'good people' do it and I shouldn't want to offend them in any way I'm allowing sin to get a foothold within me and call myself tolerant. This is not a call to murder abortion doctors or gays or Democrats or Republicans or Masons or members of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Birds.

Wouldn't it have been easier to ask people not to sin, rather than engaging in rhetoric that sounds like he is asking members to become intolerant of the sins of others? Does he write his own material?

Oh, Nehor __ stop interrupting their fun. Of course they know what he really meant.
It's just that Runtu Hoffman has taught them all how to play this game, and now that they've found how much fun it can be, they just don't want to stop.
Shryver had the best term for it __ a *square dance* ............................. or something like that.

Well, if people would bother to read his whole talk there wouldn't be an issue. Instead, we have a couple of people trumpeting a snippet as loudly as they can. They caused the problem, not Monson. I don't expect people who speak in Church (or anywhere else) to analyze every sentence of what they say to make sure that it can't be twisted if taken out of context. Maybe you have a higher standard.

Runtu = the Mark Hoffman of the exmormon world.
I don't know whether to laugh at this or find it extremely disheartening. Mark Hofmann killed my friend's brother, and I wouldn't compare my worst enemy to him. You've inadvertently proven my point.

what the heck is this supposed to mean, wheat? You'd better clarify and quick.

It is interesting how many defenders of the faith seem to have a special loathing for critics who refuse to engage in personal attacks and vitriol. It's almost like they want critics to all behave like the raving, foaming at the mouth, picketers and protesters. So much easier to discount and discredit people like that. But when critics behave reasonably, you actually have to engage the substance of their criticism, rather than their notable lack of character, and that always spells trouble for defenders of the faith, doesn't it, wheat?

Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Funny, that's the message being preached, but everything from their behavior to their political machinations do nothing but reap "heartache, unhappiness, and pain." Treat others as you would have others treat you is a nice message, but it rings hollow when the exact opposite occurs within Mormondom.
