Major League Lardbutts

Post by _squawkeye »

A couple of years ago I was visiting a friend in the Photo department at BYU. While there one student was telling me of this 'inspiring' person, not sure if he was teaching or advising, just that they were so inspired by this great person. I let them go to the area where they were going to confer with him on something and while waiting I saw this guy through the window. He must have weighed 400 pounds!
Doesn't anyone at that school emphasize morbid obesity/word or wisdom/common sense health practices?
I am sure some will give the old 'gland problems' and similar. But people don't get fatter than a market hog without overeating. The body can't manufacture 300 pounds of fat from celery and a basic diet.

I am glad I didn't accompany her into the office section where this guy was or I would have burst out laughing at the specatcle of this lardbutt sitting at a desk littered with soda drinks and sweets.(saw it through the window)

How can anyone be that damn fat and be in 'good standing' at all?

I'm not sure where to start, since at first glance, you'd probably say I was in this catagory.

1. So... I'll start with this:
Sjogren's Syndrome
rheumatoid arthritis
osteoarthritis
gout
tendonitis

That's 5, just for starters. Do you have any idea how difficult it is for me to move? I define exercise as torture. Still, I walk as much as possible, just to keep my joints from freezing solid.

Let's add a few more:
diabetes
hypertension

The pills that keep me alive also not only make it impossible for me to lose weight (even on a 500 calorie diet), they put pounds on because they activate my appetite... and they do not allow me to get a good night's sleep, which contributes to my stress, which contributes to my apple shape.

That being said, I wasn't always like this, and I didn't reach my curvy state in a short period of time. And you have no idea how hard anyone (myself or anyone else) works or doesn't work at maintaining a healthy body.

My message to you is a simple one: do not assume someone else is fat because they have no self control and eat too much. Each individual is different and faces different challenges.

2. There is nothing in the temple recommend that addresses the necessity of a minimum standard of health be met in order to qualify as "active" or in "good standing". Probably because God wasn't behind the WoW in the first place and isn't concerned about the physical over the spiritual now.

You don't get morbidly obese without taking in the calories. The body can't make fat from nothing. Conditions vary but the physical laws still apply.

1. Being morbidly obese is not illegal, immoral, or anti-social. It's a personal thing, and many factors contribute.

2. Being morbidly obese does not preclude anyone from holding a temple recommend and being in good standing in the LDS church.

I'm not seeing the problem here. Please rephrase so I understand. Thanks.

Its not that simple. How is it that I can eat pretty much whatever I want, and still maintain around 190lb? Whereas if another were to eat 1/2 of what I eat, they would gain hundreds of pounds??

Think of it this way. The human body is mostly water. It doesn't take much cell building material at all to gain weight, since most of weight gain is water anyways.

However, that being said, there is NO FREAKING WAY that the hundreds of obese people I see every week have glandular problems, or joint problems, or general health problems. We are a fat country, no doubt about it. I try not to judge any single individual, but the combined group of overweight people kind of disgusts me. Overall, I see it as gluttony and laziness.

I see it as the result of successful marketing.

Latest studies I've seen are projecting 70% of the country will be obese in 10 years.

But the news isn't all bad: I've lost 32 pounds over the last 4 months. And with any luck, I'll never see them again! If you find them, I don't want them back.

Squawkeye, I find your points in this thread to be nothing more than hate speech.

LoL! C'mon Moksha, Sqwakeye makes some good points, even if he is a little blunt. I think the lesson here is how different the outsider perspective and insider's can be. I had a similar experience to Sqwakeye's when I was at BYU although the "guru" I met was not overweight. Those on the inside of a cult can quickly get carried away in enthusiasm for their leaders or spiritual guides. They think that one conversation will change the life of anyone capable of understanding "truth". But the outsider can see the jackass for what he really is, just another jackass like anyone else.

LM 11/23/2018: one can explain away the soul of human beings...as...a Meat Unit, to use Professor Peterson's clever derogatory description of gemli's ideology.

Gad, I wasn't referring to the quality of any guru or their followers enthusiasm, it was the nastiness aimed towards fat people.

"hate speech", now convenient for someone in trying to shut out what they don't want to hear. I find the lardbutts disgusting. Sitting near a porker on an airplane is an exercise in offensiveness. Having to see someone this fat in public is disgusting.

They care so little about themselves.

How about you putting out a list of topics and words that are "approved" for discussion and won't offend your sensitive little soul? Most Americans would never make it in Great Britain where actual debate and spirited discussion are found even in the newspapers.

I am sure your wounded spirit will survive reading the word LardButts.
