I'm not sure what you mean by LT. However, I will say this. Java is different from Javascript. The former generally asks you to update it. The latter is automatically updated when you update your web browser.
Yes, it is usually a good idea to keep all software up to date, but be careful to always update it from the company's site or from the built-in updaters otherwise someone can trick you into downloading a Trojan Horse which is malicious software. In the case of Firefox, go to firefox.com. For Internet Explorer, use Microsoft update. I don't know how to update a Mac, since I don't use them frequently. It is my understanding that Google Chrome automatically updates itself. Be careful never to update from a web page unless it is the company's website which you navigated to yourself by typing in the full internet address. Never download from a site you reached by clicking a link on an email, or a link from another unknown or untrusted web site.
Javascript serves to make web pages more dynamic and interactive. It is responsible for inserting tags such as bold, italic, underline, or Quote in your comments when you click the corresponding buttons located above the text box where you tye your comments. Javascript is usually safe, but it can be dangerous if someone finds a way to use it to download malicious programs to your computer.
