If by "The Church" you mean the members of the Church, then I think there are enough LDS who believe righteousness=wealth that the thought may merit some investigation.
I agree that Joseph Smith never used his position to enrich himself or his family. Money just didn't seem to be a motivating factor for him. But there can be other things just as interesting as money to people in positions of power. Especially if you think Jesus will be returning soon, bringing the end of modern society as we know it.
I would also be reticent to assume that it was Joseph's preference to remain poor. I don't think the events of Kirtland, Missouri and Nauvoo that forced his povertous state were part of the original plan.
I don't think Joseph sought poverty. Some LDS equate righteousness with wealth but this is a problem in every society that has a religion. In those that don't, wealth is seen as the just reward for those with certain skills. Consecration is meant to get rid of all of this.

Unless they're actively scamming you I think letting them weary you is being overly sensitive and letting them control too much of your life.

But Joseph didn't control that. In fact he usually let the members decide what their excess was. I also see no evidence to suggest he got the most. Please demonstrate this. You'd think he would have got wealthy at some point.
Yes he did and this is where he lived when he was killed..

Yes he did what? He was after money? I hate to burst your little bubble here but there are easier ways then a decade of missionary work to get a house that size, even back then.

Are we supposed to be ashamed that our Prophets didn't live off bread crumbs, live in a box, and wear rags everywhere they went?

and that is after the 'hotel wing' for guests was removed.
That is some pad for a poor farm boy. Once again, Joseph Smith does better than Jesus Christ ever did. Can't help respecting him!

Oh yea he made a killing looking for buried treasure.. The man was a con-artist who invented a religion.. And he did it just not for money but also power..

Also the ultimate goal in the church is for its people to have all things in common. The great law of consecration.
He had people willing to give up their homes, their lives, their professions, and their monogamy to come and form the Kingdom of God with him.
Hello,
The Law of consecration and Polygamy are Not common with each other. They are at odds with each other. How in the world can you have all things in common in one man has one wife and another man has as many as six wives??? The Book of Mormon strongly condemns the Practice of Polygamy (Jacob 2), and Proclaims that People should have all things in common among them (4th Nephi).
