Class work in size 8 font- your opinion requested

Post by _msnobody »

The teachers at my kid's school give out worksheets and study guides with font that is equivalent to a size 8 Times New Roman font done in MS Word.

I wanted to poll the board and ask your opinion as to whether you think this font is just too small or adequate for all the students. I'm sure it is probably done to save on paper, but I ask, please do not launch into schools operate on shoestring budgets, making accommodations for the sight impaired, etc.

Crap! I cast my vote the wrong way!

I meant to vote Yes, the size 8 font is too small! GRRR!

Sorry about that!

Size 8 is a ridiculously small size for font. The TEACHERS require the High School kids to turn in papers in size 12 font so that they can read them!

Times New Roman 8?

8?????

Are they supplying students with magnifiers to read their own work?

Yes, it's too small and ridiculous. Good hell, how hard do they have to make it on kids?

Having said that, is it possible for them to type in say, 12 or 14 and then reduce it when they're done?

I think what they are doing is photocopying the worksheets, study guides, etc. going from two pages (workbook/book style) to putting both pages on one 8.5" x 11" piece of paper side-by-side in landscape orientation. Basically, they are using half-sheets of paper rather than full sheets.

I typed a short note to the principal in Times New Roman font size 8 suggesting that they consider making the copies more sight-friendly hoping to make a point. I'm considering walking the note in to the principal one morning to watch her initial reaction when she begins to try to read it.

8-P Where is a smilie when you need one?

No, size 8 font should be adequate for all children

11 When I was a child, I saw as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things. And get out brille.

Writing your homework in a very small font size is hard on your eyes.

WAY too small!

There have actually been some studies done on this, you could google the psychophysics of reading.

In sum, children read better with larger fonts.

Hello,

I Voted, "Yes, size 8 font is too small and should be larger". However, I don't think that size 10 font is too small. I think that the kids should do a size 10 Times New Roman font done in MS Word.
