Re: Huntsman and story behind the story
Maybe Huntsman is one of those Middle Way Mormons. Severing ties with the LDS Church could be something he is just unwilling to do, but a Church Court on the other hand could be a real boost for his chances to lead the Republican Party.

Maybe we can find an area authority to excommunicate him before it gets that far. Silly me, why would they touch a guy whom they could one day call their Mormon in the White House? I talk crazy talk.

Come now O'wise one. "some egyptian papyrus???
How about the literal handwriting/handcalligraphy of Father Abraham himself. The most important scrolls yet found in the world of Religion. Original writing by him as well as a few other great Religious heroes of the Bible, the spidermen of the good guys.
You make fun of Joseph who translated it? How could you? I bet the Pope and the Knights Templar and the possum club are all scheming how to steal these great religious treasures from Salt Lake City as we read this.

This coming from someone who believes an uneducated farm boy, one Joseph Smith, literally translated some Egyptian papyrus into the Book of Abraham.
Yeah, why praise the intellect of a guy who speaks Chinese fluently, when you can fawn on the memory of a guy who couldn't translate ancient Egyptian, but evidently has Will convinced that he could?
I guess I answered my own question.

I will say this: Huntsman's prospects as a candidate for president are now officially sunk--not because he no longer believes in Mormonism (which has been rather common knowledge for some time now) but because he is a rank coward, afraid to stand for what he does believe.
The basic difference between the two, is nothing more than Romney making a big deal about refusing to drink a bottle of Lipton Iced tea, and Huntsman not caring about such a trivial and inane superficiality.
That is how Mormons, including W.S judge others, and why affinity fraud is so rampant in Mormon culture; much of a person is based on superficial irrelevancies and inanities and not on substance or character.

Not much into politics here, but I like Lipton iced tea.
We're never going to have to worry about a Mormon of any stripe in the White House. The Secret Service can't get into the temple.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Following Kishkumen's train of thought, the Church would make exceptions for a Mormon in the White House. Besides both Kevlar and .44 Magnums can be made white and delightsome.

Re: Huntsman and story behind the story
I'm always sad to see others leave the faith, if that is what is happening (or has happened) here. But politics aside, there is no slight intellect at work with Huntsman. I met with him to give him updates (at his office and at his home) on the issues in Iraq and Afghanistan. And I gave him security briefings before he visited theater to talk to the men and women serving from Utah. He has a very quick intellect. He's very sharp. It didn't matter whether the subject was Iranian hegemony, Afghan corruption, tribal awakening vs a strong Iraqi central government, the nuances of Muslim sects, or the effects of PTSD--he contributed to the discussion with depth and intellgence. I can't (and don't like to) speak about US Political divisions, but on matters I believe I understand well, the intellect he displayed was considerable. Seemed like a bright, down-to-earth, humble guy.
My two cents.

Re: Huntsman and story behind the story
That's what happens when you visit other faiths. Everyone knows that you shouldn't visit other faiths. You shouldn't read anything that hasn't been approved by the church. You shouldn't hang out with anyone who isn't approved by the church. You shouldn't do anything that isn't approved by the church. If you participate in these things, you will lose your testimony and find yourself in hell.
I'm the apostate your bishop warned you about.
