Mass as endowment. Interesting observation. I am inclined to think it has some validity.

I wonder if Mormonism has attraction to some people by filling out the meaning of Mass which people sense should be there but is lost in some Protestant thought which shrunk it down to a thin shadow.

Thanks for sharing this with us, Quark!

One of my fondest experiences in attending a Catholic Church was when I attended a Palm Sunday service. It was extremely uplifting. The choir was beautiful. I also loved how we each received a small piece of a palm tree to take home with us.

I think it is a shame that the LDS do not celebrate Palm Sunday.

The Palm Sunday service was as significant to me as any Easter service I have attended.

When I was leaving Mormonism, I experienced a lot of what you did. It was very different than going to your usual Protestant service. The mass is what moved me to Catholicism in spite of all of the problems in the Catholic Church.

A Catholic service is singularly beautiful. I highly recommend it. And I am sincerely pleased that you had the experienc you did. I would say, however, that protestant services offer other aspects of worship that can be equally uplifting. Just different, and it depends on the person. Jesus is there in an RCC service just as He is there in the service I attend.

Christian worship offers all kinds of expression. And, imho, I think this is one of its greatest strengths, despite all the yammering about how fractured Christianity is. You will find the same Jesus preached at a Catholic service as you would at my lil' ol' baptist church - wait, a better way to present this would be that you will find different ways to commune with Jesus and others (and the potlucks are a lot better to - that one is for you Ceeboo).

Anyway... enough of that. Glad you went and glad you had the experience you had. Well done.

I have to admit that I was brought to Christ through Protestantism -- basically, Billy Graham and the Methodists. I moved onto Catholicism from there.

I don't blame you one single bit!! And I would be interested to hear of your journey. And... it would seem you agree with me that both expressions offer something that the other simply cannot. Neither is better, both are different. Both are extraordinarily beautiful and frustratingly maddening.

I used to live in a deep South state and had several occassions to attend a "black" church. Wow! Fabulous! Something that a RCC could never replicate.

I have seen some black parishes and charismatic parishes that probably come close to replicating it. In the Polish and Hungarian areas of South Bend they even occasionally have polka masses. The mass is the same, but the musical expression can be very different. Sometimes the preaching at some of the black parishes has the same cadence as the preaching in a black Protestant service.

The hypocricy on this thread makes me puke. I think that it is great that quark had his experience but to see the antimormons lauding over the catholic mass and catholicism makes me sick. But then again, I am not an antimormon.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.
