Any guesses?

Now that makes sense with the picture.

I think that he and she were thinking about the letters that they shared with eachother. You can listen to the tape:

Maybe Joseph was thinking about that time he accused Emma of poisoning him.

She's thinking, "He can be so sweet, kind, handsome, righteous, and loving. And inspired! So inspired! How was I ever so lucky to have found the man of my dreams? I don't ever want this moment to end! How I love him!"

He's thinking, "God, how many more brush strokes before I get laid?"
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

Here's my comment: I find most LDS paintings like this insipid. They practically invite ridicule. For this reason, I have no interest in answering the invitation. It's too easy.

If you listen to the tape that I linked in the desseret link you will see that after the fanny incident they were still writing loving letters to each other. Now that says a lot. Maybe the fanny incident is not what the critics portray it to be.

According to Brigham Young, Emma tried to murder Joseph by poison. That's romance!
