RIP Christopher Hitchens

I didn't mind Hitchens. Sometimes he was pretty entertaining and other times, a little annoying. Mostly, I was indifferent.

But I do hope his family is doing OK.

Nothing wrong with that. I'll even buy you a few beers, and we could have a good old chat about the positive things we love about life. Then, when you get on the anti-Mormon rostrum, like some bitter old phart with endless grievances about Mormons, I'll tell you to shove your negativity up your logical ass.

I hope Mr. Hitchens is now rested in the arms of the God he denied all his life, with his fake and anti-religion commentary, and his mission to destroy faith in God. And that is what he was, a destroyer of faith, just like Dawkins and Harris.

Now bring on the lectures about "rationalism", and "logic", and what a "hero" Hitchens was. Don't forget to bless the logical bread and take the logical communion - in his sacred logical memory, ye worshipers.

This is truly a time of mourning.

Bow in reverence as you remember this great soul, and take great offence if anyone criticises him. Ban them from MDB!

Thanks Stak, that really set the tone. I just had a little drink and a private toast to Christopher, not for his sake, because he no longer has one, but because he meant something to me, and I do. ;-)

In future, I hope you'll be somewhat more diplomatic and ease off calling Joseph Smith a fraud and an adulterer. Your hero doesn't appear to be sinless. He no longer exists, anyway, and is now just worm-fodder. Just like you will be. Like a month-living moth on a wall of despair. Born today, dead tomorrow, and that's it. Why even bother. It's all pointless, with some interim clapping and adulation, which means zilch. Your children are just flesh and meat, bodies destined to die and rot in graves forever. Praise Hitch, for such an ennobling vision. A true saviour from "religious ignorance", and all, of course, based on "evidence" very convenient to his innate narcissism.

On the contrary, it's the belief in eternal life that strips mortal life of meaning.

I'm sure Hitchens is burning in hell with Mother Theresa as we speak. But asking Jesus into your heart as your personal savior still isn't going to stop your body from decomposing.

When making contributions directed at my fellow human beings that have passed, I always try (sometimes fail) to speak of the deceased while measuring the loss and pain of his/her loved ones who are left behind to deal with the reality that we all will/do face.

In this case, I offer my sincere sympathy to his family, friends, and fans.
