No rest for the wicked. They are scrambling. I wonder if there's a loan that is going to be called in for City Creek... and I wonder what bank they will take down with them...

This is just unfortunate. Poor members and poor bishops.

Because it sure as hell isn't going to be the Brethren that suffer, that's a given.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

I feel horrible for those Bishops, thrust into a position that is really a full time job that requires at least some training in pastoral care (e.g. discerning between a spiritual problem and an organic problem). All this does is do a disservice to all those wonderful people who put their heart and soul into this Church.

I completely agree.

Just got back from 8 hours of training, so I'll be brief. No, I have nothing but my friend's word for this. But I know this guy and have no reason to distrust the information. He says that the stated intent is to provide services for more members around the world, which means cutting services for people in the US and Canada.

Crap, I'll bet there is a communication that stake presidents and bishops got. I wish I still had access to the official archives.

I'm sure it will leak out.

Wonder if it would be possible for Bishop's to hand out CDs with that old freeware psychological help know as Eliza. This might not be such a Blixarian nightmare in that it could potentially render better advice than the Bishop could give. Perhaps LDS programmers could add in some scriptures, Temple photos and a depiction of the faithful paying their tithing.
