Shame on you, H., for negatively focusing on two cherrypicked quotes. ;-)
Indeed. The actual context portrays an entirely different picture of what is being taught:
We are sometimes charged with being unkind to the sisters in that they do not hold the priesthood and therefore do not hold the offices that the brethren do. But it is well understood that whether or not we are exalted depends upon the sister who is at our side—the wife, the mother of our children—and no holder of the priesthood would in any way depreciate or mitigate the value and power of his wife. When I hear those comments that the sisters are less than the brethren, I wish that they could see inside the heart of every worthy holder of the priesthood and understand how he feels about his wife, the mother of his children—a reverence, not quite worship but a kind of worship, a respect for the companion in life that causes it to be that he can be exalted ultimately.
........
That gives me a lot of comfort at my young age when we have been married for 65 years, and I think that could come to an end. Then I realize that the gospel is true, and it will never come to an end. I have been very careful, and am very careful, to treat my wife with that respect and reverence that is due her in performing that thing that is of most worth for a woman in this life to live the gospel, to be the wife and the mother of the children of a worthy holder of the priesthood.
Feel free to add the paragraphs in between. No change in context relative to what I highlighted.

Sorry, I don't see how what you've added changes the meaning of what was said. Maybe you could expound?

"Any man who thinks he's going to the highest degree of glory without a woman at his side does not understand the gospel. Together, they control the fountain of life. While neither can generate life without the other, the mystery of life unfolds when these two become one."

Coming to a meetinghouse near you.

I think that he is right. But also men need to honor the women. When we put both together into a relationship as he suggests, it may work quite well for a happy marriage. Within marriages there is a great deal of disrespect. But with this kind of foundation, the marriage has a good chance to succeed. Now of course, in nonlds families, they can use the same formula minus the priesthood with a litle imagination.

I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world. Joseph Smith We are “to feed the hungry, to clothe the naked, to provide for the widow, to dry up the tear of the orphan, to comfort the afflicted, whether in this church, or in any other, or in no church at all…” Joseph Smith

My emphasis.
Not good. My sympathy.
edit: I guess I can see why you defend Joseph and Brigham.
Aristotle Smith wrote:I hope he does. If for no other reason to see the absolute despair that will overtake the liberal, Sunstone, and Bloggernacle Mormons who have written off Boyd and his teachings for years because he wasn't the prophet.
Being a secretive liberal hypocrite of NOM I won't despair. Not one whit. Everyone was so worried when ETB became prophet yet he was very benign.
Yes, but he wasn't mentally there anymore. The lights were on, but no one was home.

I remember when he told the women to stay home and be mothers, that getting a real live honest to goodness job with wages and benefits wasn't what women were good for (not in those words, but the message was clear).
I went home and cried.
1985? I don't remember the date. I just remember the despair.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.
