Yeah, I'm afraid to ask.

You think those were weird? Wait till you see my current ones!

And yeah, I feel marvelous.

Have you told Tobin you used to be a Mormon?

I find it interesting that Mr. BCSpace feels his subjective anecdotal experience is somehow more reliable than anyone else's. This makes three weak spots in his posture:

1) His definition of Official Doctrine has never been officially declared IAW his definition of Official Doctrine thus rendering it moot.

2) His definition of Official Doctrine holds him accountable to his definable definition of Official Doctrine thus undermining his apologetics when a critic produces "official doctrine".

3) Mr. BCSpace feels his subjective anecdotal experience is somehow more reliable than anyone else's subjective anecdotal experience thus placing him in the uneviable position of inventing doctrine that isn't Official Doctrine as defined by himself thus negating his attempt at apologetics.

In other words, he's just making s*** up & passing it off as a legitimate Mormon position.

Sounds like he's a worthy disciple of JSJr and BY, then, doesn't it?

I also remember learning about how the Catholics came up with the Trinity doctrine. I was told they sat in council and discussed it for a long time. I remember thinking, "Gosh, they were in such an apostasy! Our prophet just asks God. 'Tis as simple as that."

Golly!

You're not alone, Zeez. I was told exactly the same thing with the same comparison. The story I heard was that when the Mormon prophet dies, the other apostles gather in the upper floor of the Salt Lake Temple and take a secret vote; when all the votes are revealed, they are found to match exactly.

First time, every time.

To my chagrin, I remember even repeating this story to non-members.

I just saw BCSpace's new signature line which he touts as being the Official Church Stance on what constitutes Official Church Doctrine:

If I recall correctly, I think Drifting has the second part of that in his siggy which he emphasizes to the exclusion of the rest to present a false picture of what LDS doctrine is. I would put both together but there is not enough memory allowed for it on this site.

With divine inspiration, the First Presidency and the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles counsel together to establish doctrine that is consistently proclaimed in official Church publications.--Official LDS Church stance on doctrine.

Now that we at last have BCSpace committed to a proposition,

"At last"? You're as yellow journalistic as the rest. I've presented the Church's view on doctrine decades before Approaching Mormon doctrine was ever published and I'm sure you can search on the MDD and find examples prior to 2007 where I present it the same way; publication is the standard.

1. Why is the word "revelation" not mentioned anywhere in this definition?

Divine inspiration covers it.

Joseph Smith was big on revelation--the modern-church; not so much. Is there any indication this was how Joseph Smith viewed doctrine as being established?

2. Why do fifteen men have to "counsel together"? What are the counseling about? Doesn't God just reveal this sort of thing anymore? (See question No. 1)

D&C 107. The FP and Qo12 are equal in authority. A good example of this might be OD-1 which was presented before the entire body before it was official.

It would be interesting to delve into how Joseph Smith may actually handled it.

3. Isn't this misleading?

I don't think so.

I mean, the First Presidency and the Quorum of Twelve Apostles haven't "established" any "doctrine" for over a century.

By this logic, the rest of Christianity hasn't had any for hundreds of years at least.
