Jason Bourne wrote:BC oddly thinks that because the priesthood ban came first and the skin color second that there is no racism as a result. This not withstanding that the ban ONLY applied to a group of people born into this race. Say this with a straight face to those who think Mormonism is odd already.
I always enjoy JB's posts. What a sensible fellow.
"Petition wasn’t meant to start a witch hunt as I’ve said 6000 times." ~ Hanna Seariac, LDS apologist
Speaking as a Mormon, Bott's comments that blacks did not have the priesthood because they couldn't handle it, and it was a blessing to them to be banned from the priesthood so they wouldn't abuse it and go to hell, is especially offensive.

I will state up front that I am not feeling well today and am in a foul mood.
It is the BS that comes out of the mouths of BC and other apologists that really make me want to puke and just resign. The mind games and such become just too much. I wonder how someone can make such crappy arguments and bend their minds around it all. I guess it rests on just having the tiniest bit of plausibility to still hang your testimony on. Have at it boys. I just cannot do it. Maybe I am flawed but really Mormon apologetics is looking more and more to me like BS through and through.

The whole damn ban is offensive! How about the Church grow some balls and say "Look, we are not sure why we did this. It seems that it may havee been instituted based on policy that really did have its roots in the racism of the 19th century. Leaders did try to find doctrinal reasons for the ban but we repudiate those today and are sorry for the ban and the pain it may have caused those of African Descent."
But no that will never happen. Just forget all the crap we taught about this for 140 years and pretend it was all folklore. Come on LDS Church. Take your last Presidents position and STAND FOR SOMETHING!

Bott is just depressing -- to think that a tenured BYU professor actually believes and spouts this crap is very disheartening. Bott makes it very clear that the Brethren need to issue an official statement apologizing for and renouncing the Church's past (and perhaps present, if Bott is any indication) racist ways and stating unequivocally that there was never a revelation establishing the priesthood ban as doctrine. Otherwise, members will continue to believe and spew this BS.
"Moving beyond apologist persuasion, LDS polemicists furiously (and often fraudulently) attack any non-traditional view of Mormonism. They don't mince words -- they mince the truth."

You said it my friend. I am so pissed about this. I think I will cut my tithing check in half this month. Vote with my money! They understand that!

No LDS clergy have the word "authority" in their title.
But if you are referring to how they are referenced by the LDS Church, bishops are considered "authorities" as well.

He is referring to the paid part of the Church clergy....
“We look to not only the spiritual but also the temporal, and we believe that a person who is impoverished temporally cannot blossom spiritually.” Keith McMullin - Counsellor in Presiding Bishopric
"One, two, three...let's go shopping!" Thomas S Monson - Prophet, Seer, Revelator
BC, how can you state that this is not racist and that "there is nothing that says or implies that because blacks have blacks skin, they were not ready for the priesthood"?
Did you read this part?:
'According to Mormon scriptures, the descendants of Cain, who killed his brother, Abel, “were black.” '
BC, What other religion interprets the "mark of Cain" or "curse of Cain" to mean black skin? How much more blatant could that be?
The church needs to come clean on this as Jason Bourne has already expressed above. This is going to be a huge issue if Romney ends up running against Obama.

Here's hoping that Romney douchebag wins, and serves a full eight years!
