I have it on good authority that there is an influential movement of scholars who are unhappy with the current direction of polemics led by Dan and his editorial team.

I bet none of those "so called" scholars ever fought in the trenches of World War I and were forced to crawl through the mud in order to advance on enemy positions. They only enjoy their ethically positions because there are brave apologists like Dan and his editorial team stationed on the ivory parapets armed only with sticks of dynamite and a trusty sniper rifle.

Centuries from now they will be telling Dan's story in the movie Bravetassel.

Liz, I doubt Dan is going to be in dire straits with his six figure income, he is still going to be a tenured professor at BYU. And as he likes to remind us, he doesn't get paid anything to do apologetics anyway.

Look on the bright side. With him out, the position is open to some other lucky person who might take NAMIR in a more responsible and respectable direction. Instead of being sad for Dan, let's be happy for whoever his replacement is.

They should put Brian Hauglid in the position as his replacement.

They are both highly talented men who came from humble backgrounds. I don't see how that is untrue or funny.

How can I say this?

The same situation can present itself to different people in different ways - in terms, for example, of whether one sees a slip on a banana-skin as a welcome puncturing of overblown self-esteem (and therefore essentially ludicrous), or a minor accident that causes a moment of mild concern to the observer, before one is reassured to see that no harm has been done.

In the case of DCP and Schryver, there are some of us here (including, I am certain, highly talented people from humble backgrounds) who have mostly seen the pair of them as essentially ludicrous figures, whose energy and intelligence just went to intensify the overall impression, and whose occasional flashes of sheer nastiness have acted as a prophylactic against sympathy when they suffer misfortunes they would certainly have been happy to have seen inflicted on others.

To people in that situation, your original statement looks like irony, though I am sure you meant it quite sincerely.
