I am glad you appreciated Housman's Words of Wisdom ...

The nice thing is that the reference to 'malt' makes the last two lines work for whisky too!

This is true.

It depends on the type of red. A sweet red or a clean red like a Pinot Noir or a Cab, is much easier than a merlot. I am not fond of a super woody taste. I prefer either a fruity or clean taste.

Don't get me wrong - I do enjoy red; it did take me longer and more experimentation to appreciate it.

I like Cabs and Pinots, and Malbecs are good as well. I am not as fond of oaky Old World wines and prefer Chilean or Argentinian reds.

Substances once known as "American Beer" will henceforth be referred to as "Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine," except for the product of the American Budweiser company which will be called "Weak Near-Frozen Gnat's Urine." This will allow true Budweiser (as manufactured for the last 1000 years in Pilsen, Czech Republic) to be sold without risk of confusion.

And this is not a joke (as the other ones - in the interpretation of me - which are incomprehensible for You).

Not to get too technical or anything, but yes, as of 2008 Budweiser's parent company Anheuser-Busch merged with the Belgian company InBev. Making it a Belgian beer. That's a good joke, no? I mean lousy buttwiper (as I call Budweiser) is now a "Belgian beer".

Personally, I prefer a good Trappist (monk's bread) or a Lev Lion. Too expensive to drink often, so this little brewery out of Oregon that makes Sessions (dark) is my current domestic favorite. The DH and I just bought a case yesterday.

From the Epic of Gilgamesh, 2nd millenium BC:

"How the youth resembles Gilgamesh--
tall in stature, towering up to the battlements over the wall!
Surely he was born in the mountains;
his strength is as mighty as the meteorite(!) of Anu!"
They placed food in front of him,
they placed beer in front of him;
Enkidu knew nothing about eating bread for food,
and of drinking beer he had not been taught.
The harlot spoke to Enkidu, saying:
"Eat the food, Enkidu, it is the way one lives.
Drink the beer, as is the custom of the land."
Enkidu ate the food until he was sated,
he drank the beer-seven jugs!-- and became expansive and sang with joy!
He was elated and his face glowed.
He splashed his shaggy body with water,
and rubbed himself with oil, and turned into a human.
He put on some clothing and became like a warrior(!).
He took up his weapon and chased lions so that the shepherds could eat
He routed the wolves, and chased the lions.
With Enkidu as their guard, the herders could lie down.
A wakeful man, a singular youth, he was twice as tall (?) (as normal men

See? Beer makes you human.

(That stuff about not having been taught to drink beer sounds familiar ...)

What beer(s) have you tried?

It was very bitter.

I think everyone's taste buds are just different. And yes, you can develop tastes for different things.

I do not like beer that is too hoppy, but Guiness on tap and microbrew stouts on tap are usually a delicious way to drink dinner.

I've heard nothing but bad news about Coors, Miller, Bud, etc. Of course, I have not tried them, so I really can't compare.

I agree it takes getting used to. I feel it is like my experience with Greek salad. Once I got used to the feta and olives, I fell in love.

Ok, to the kitchen for me! I need to clean and make pie crust before church!

If I were headed off to church, now would be the time for beer.

Coors is liquid Fascism.

And it tastes horrible.
