LOL. No. We didn't use it. I did exaggerate that. But the manuals still have old cringe worthy quotes from generations ago. The problem is the church desperately needs some new material, but since the church is true, and the lessons and youth programs were inspired, the reason the youth are leaving is because of satan.
In a way, yes. If one is a Mormon youth, that person is expected to follow church teachings: no alcohol, no sex, dress modestly, be an example etc. Not easy at all for many youth who want to experience the wild side. Churches should not be about entertainment. Rather, churches should give good guidance in how to do life and bring that person closer to god. The LDS church does a good job in doing this for its youth. But it is not easy for a young person nor for an adult.
My satan reply was a joke. This is what you are conditioned to believe. Do really think kids leave the church because they can't drink, have sex, or dress immodestly? Do you think the non-mormon kids that do these things have the full support of their teachers, parents, and other non-mormon adult leaders, or do you think they are rebelling? You might find this hard to believe but a lot of Mormon kids do these things as teenagers, then grow up and become responsible adults, just like non-mormon kids. The kids who leave the Mormon church aren't the party animals that want to experience the wild side. The kids who leave for good are the ones who are bored out of their mind and roll their eyes when their teacher talks about Adam and Eve as the first humans on earth, they don't understand why a non-white shirt makes a person unworthy to pass the sacrament, and they hate camping. In other words, the kids who get nothing out of Mormonism will stop going when their parents stop dragging them there.
