I am going to have to issue you a CFR for your unique assertion that the Heartland Model is a "recent innovation".

I look forward with much anticipation to your response to my CFR.

Very truly yours,

I realise that as an anti-Mormon, you'd love the so-called "heartland" model to become the accepted interpretation of Book of Mormon geography; it's such an easy target, after all.

But I'm afraid it's all wishful thinking on your part, as well as on Meldrum's.

Because.......................? The Brethren have directed MI to investigate the James Q. Muir model of South America Geography for the Book of Mormon, who has discovered the first two principle cities of the Jaredites and ........wait for it, I know you already know.......discovered the REAL Zarahemla with River Sidon and explained competently the two routes (one mountain route and one sea side route) for the final battles of the Book of Mormon which end up in Northern Colombia where there are many waters.
The Amazon Sea Fan is an underwater delta because an underground river used to drain the basin. It was a sea even the Sea East of the Book of Mormon. When the water levels were high enough the Orinoco River in Venezuela also drained the basin which account for it incredible delta.

And you are all welcome, Mormons now that you see what a little bit of the Spirit can do. Well the Brethren ought to be all over it. Stupid if they aren't.

I don't care about that. What I do care about is whether they will accept the second part of your teachings-- that the LDS church is in apostasy from the best of the Book of Mormon. There we are agreed.

This feels like a thread about two groups of people discussing where nothing didn't happen...

I don't see how anyone could think that the idea the Book of Mormon took place in North America is some kind of recent innovation.

That is confusing to me as well. After all, Joseph Smith was also convinced that the happenings in the Book of Mormon took place in the US.

Now, there has been some apologetic discussion on whether or not this was simply an assumption as opposed to a revelation on Joseph Smith's part, but it seems pretty obvious to me that Joseph Smith was convinced that the Book of Mormon happened right here. After all, he also named Jackson County, Missouri as the Garden of Eden.

I appear to have missed this, but Rodney Meldrum has helpfully informed all interested parties that Maxwell Institute has "fired" the main proponents of the LGT

Meaningless. I daresay most LDS are now Mesoamerican LGT. Plus, there's never been basis for the MI leading in LDS apologetics and even less now.

Unless they, or someone, begins to lead in apologetics AND they adopt the "Heartland Model", Mesoamerican LGT hypothesis is with us for the foreseeable future.

And the Garden of Eden is not particularly relevant to the Book of Mormon.

Most early Book of Mormon readers, Joseph included, seem to have assumed a "hemispheric" model. Look at the map; see Panama? That's the obvious "narrow neck of land," right? Well, most of the action takes place south of that feature.

Later on, after reading about Stephens and Catherwood, Joseph started to zero in on Mexico and Guatemala.

The so-called "heartland" model is not the traditional "hemispheric" model. It's a "Great Lakes LGT." You can read about it here.
