Mormon. Org Tells Big lie

Post by _Mittens »

On Mormon. Org here's what they say

A. God the Father and Jesus Christ
Though Mormons consider Joseph Smith to be the first modern-day Prophet, and they believe in continual direction through a living prophet, they don’t worship anyone except God the Father and Jesus Christ. Unlike most Christian denominations, Mormons believe that God the Father and Jesus Christ are distinct beings with distinct roles.
Two lies in one statement,

McConkie says they only Worship God the Father

Our Relationship with the Lord
BRUCE R. MCCONKIE
Now, it is no secret that many false and vain and foolish things are being taught in the sectarian world and even among us about our need to gain a special relationship with the Lord Jesus. I shall summarize the true doctrine in this field and invite erring teachers and beguiled students to repent and believe the accepted gospel verities as I shall set them forth.

We worship the Father and him only and no one else. We do not worship the Son, and we do not worship the Holy Ghost. I know perfectly well what the scriptures say about worshipping Christ and Jehovah, but they are speaking in an entirely different sense--the sense of standing in awe and being reverentially grateful to him who has redeemed us. Worship in the true and saving sense is reserved for God the first, the Creator.
Christ worked out his own salvation by worshiping the Father. After the Firstborn of the Father, while yet a spirit being, had gained power and intelligence that made him like unto God; after he had become, under the Father, the Creator of worlds without number; after he had reigned on the throne of eternal power as the Lord Omnipotent--after all this he yet had to gain a mortal and then an immortal body.

God- Godhead- Substance- Essence- Being [ all Synonyms ] The Trinity of Evangelics teach three separate and distinct persons [ always plural ] represent the ONE God- Godhead- Substance- Essence- Being [ all Synonyms ] and always singular

TRINITY

The coexistence of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit in the unity of the Godhead (divine nature or essence). The doctrine of the trinity means that within the being and activity of the one God there are three distinct persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Although the word trinity does not appear in the Bible, the "trinitarian formula" is mentioned in the Great Commission (Matt 28:19) and in the benediction of the apostle Paul's Second Epistle to the Corinthians (2 Cor 13:14).

Trinity
used to express the doctrine of the unity of God as subsisting in three distinct Persons. This word is derived from the Gr.
trias
, first used by Theophilus (A.D. 168 A.D. - 183 A.D.), or from the Lat. trinitas, first used by Tertullian (A.D. 220 A.D.), to express this doctrine. The propositions involved in the doctrine are these: 1. That God is one, and that there is but one God (Deut 6:4; 1 Kings 8:60; Isa 44:6; Mark 12:29,32; John 10:30). 2. That the Father is a distinct divine Person (hypostasis, subsistentia, persona, suppositum intellectuale), distinct from the Son and the Holy Spirit. 3. That Jesus Christ was truly God, and yet was a Person distinct from the Father and the Holy Spirit. 4. That the Holy Spirit is also a distinct divine Person.

Mittens,

Have you ever considered the truth that one particular version of unfounded religious mumbo jumbo is just as much of a big lie as the next?

These differences in belief between mainline Christianity and Mormonism that you continue to harp upon have no more actual relevance to humankind than did the differences in belief that led to the War of the Titans in another mythology.

Both narratives are amusing in their own way, but neither has any basis in reality and therefore neither really matters.

Do you honestly believe otherwise?

Mittens, do you even "read" what you quote?

LDS.org did not "lie".

1. In a very GENERAL sense, we most certainly worship both the Father and the Son. Thus, LDS.org is telling the truth.

2. If you actually read the quote from McConkie, he made clear that while there IS a "form" of worship for the Son, the one where our true worship and salvation resides is with the Father. This is entirely Biblical. We are to only worship "God". And God is the Father.

If your worship of Christ is not secondary to the Father, then you worship other God's before HIM.

Why do you think we pray to the Father in the NAME of the Son as the Bible teaches.
In fact, this statement makes clear that there is a form of worship of both, but our focus should be on the Father. He is after all our true Father, not Christ. Christ is also our Father, but not THE Father.

Actually The Bible teaches Worship of Jesus

Matthew 8
1 When he was come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed him. 2And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him

Matthew 9:
18 While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead:

Mathew 15:
25 Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me. 26But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children’s bread, and to cast it to dogs.

Matthew 28:
9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him. 10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me

Prayer is Worship
Acts:
59 And they stoned Stephen as he was calling on God and saying, “Lord Jesus, receive my spirit.” 60 Then he knelt down and cried out with a loud voice, “Lord, do not charge them with this sin.” And when he had said this, he fell asleep.

1 Corinthians 1
1 Paul, called to be an apostle of Jesus Christ through the will of God, and Sosthenes our brother,
2To the church of God which is at Corinth, to those who are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be saints, with all who in every place call on the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, both theirs and ours:

3 Nephi 19:
18 And behold, they began to pray; and they did pray unto Jesus, calling him their Lord and their God.

22 Father, thou hast given them the Holy Ghost because they believe in ame; and thou seest that they believe in me because thou hearest them, and they pray unto me; and they pray unto me because I am with them.

30 And when Jesus had spoken these words he came again unto his disciples; and behold they did pray steadfastly, without ceasing, unto him; and he did smile upon them again; and behold they were white, even as Jesus.

Like I said, like McConkie said, and like LDS.org said, we ALSO worship Jesus. We know what the scriptures state.

But you conveniently ignore the scriptures which state our worship is to be the Father.
Further, you ignore the scripture in which Christ himself said our worship is to be toward the Father.

We are talking about a subtle but still important difference Mittens. Are you going to argue with Christ? After all people "worshiped" him while he was still alive. You don't think he knew that? He still said to worship the Father.

There is worship in using the name of the Son, but our worship is to be focused on the Father.

If you cover your bases by being on both sides of an argument you are never wrong. The current leadership can pick and choose as they want.

you are translating "worship" incorrectly...the leper etc.., thus we see the danger in being an audience member of a church....it tends to encourage people to post misleading and false posts like yours.

To worship him - Or, To do him homage; προσκυνησαι αυτω. The word προσκυνεω, which is compounded of προς, to, and κυων, a dog, signifies to crouch and fawn like a dog at his master's feet. It means, to prostrate oneself to another, according to the eastern custom, which is still in use. In this act, the person kneels, and puts his head between his knees, his forehead at the same time touching the ground. It was used to express both civil and religious reverence. In Hindostan, religious homage is paid by prostrating the body at full length, so that the two knees, the two hands, forehead, nose, and cheeks all touch the earth at the same time. This kind of homage is paid also to great men.

Worship in the Greek is PROSKUNEO. This term is used 22 times in their Jehovah Witnesses Bible to show that God the Father is to be worshipped. When it is said of the Son, they have changed it to read 'obeisance' reverance' or homage.
