In Russia it is now illegal to even speak about homosexuality around minors, much less openly display gay pride. Technically the ban is against "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations" around minors, but the implication for openly gay individuals is clear. Public displays of affection by gays, including holding hands or displaying symbols like a rainbow flag, are now banned. Violators face steep fines and jail time; foreigners face similar penalties plus deportation.

So what will happen to openly gay athletes and fans, as well as any vocal supporters or protestors, when Russia hosts the Winter Olympics next year in Sochi?

I don't agree with the restriction on speech. But otherwise I find it highly ironic that, Cold Warrior that I was, I am so often in agreement with Russia against the President of the United States and his ilk. This only happens of course when a Democrat is in office.

Actually, Russia has been 'getting one right' for quite some time. Stalinist anti-gay policies included prison and hard labor. Vladimir Putin started his career as a KGB intelligence officer.

I think what Russia has done (according to what was quoted) is excellent.
Anyone who denies that homosexual influences on other's "does not" create more gay people are simply living in fantasy land. Nearly ALL gay's were sexually molested or experimented on/with while young, and so they got it into their heads that they like it and it's okay, that it's normal.

There is almost not a single person who was actually "born that way", and the ones who think they were, not remembering anything sexual while young has simply suppressed the memory. That's a known fact in the field.

Of course, to be fair I'm not supportive of all other things by Russia, this post for example I thought was going to be about Snowden, so while that action seemed benevolent, it clearly wouldn't have been, because Russia only did it to "stick it to the USA".

The fact that the DSM doesn't any longer classify homosexuality as a mental "disorder" doesn't mean and doesn't have anything to do with the fact that Homosexuality is a "learned" and trained behavior and thought pattern.
