Are Bronco Mendenhalls Days Numbered?
Last night as I was taking Christmas gifts around to some of my TBM neighbors I got into a conversation with some current BYU students home for the Holidays. As we were catching up our conversation turned to the recent BYU football game fight fiasco. As I was expressing support for the Y and the infortunate media attention that the Y garners due to their "standards" these current students brought up out of the blue how much they hate Bronco Mendenhall and how they are praying that he gets fired.
I was stunned. I asked if this was a common view among Y students and they confirmed that yes..at least within their circle of friends it was a common desire that he either be fired or move on...
Has anyone else heard rumblings surrounding Mendenhall imminent demise?

Considering that Bronco just applied for the Wisconsin job, it sounds like the feeling is mutual.
It must be very difficult being the BYU coach. BYU fans are some of the worst in the nation, and I say that as a BYU fan myself.

Interesting...I hadn't heard he was seeking jobs at other schools...

Now BYU fans have one more reason to hate Bronco.

I don't have any great love for Bronco, nor do I hate him. I think he is a victim of the BYU/Mormon problem. The football program at BYU is going to suffer as long as they are affiliated with an outlier cult religion.
Recruiting suffers, as a result their ability to be competitive suffers. They are relegated to playing second tier opponents and this hurts recruiting which spirals down into making the cougars a well equipped high-school team.
Outside of the Mormon religion, why would a talented football player accept a scholarship to BYU, where he can't wear facial hair, has to comply with all aspects of the 'honor code' and Bronco's fanatical team rules. I think they were shackled with failure before the season ever began.
The bigger question would be, what is the future of BYU sports? The Corporation won't want to give up the bucket loads of money that BYU Football brings to the University, but just like the tithing stream, I think their revenue flow is drying up.

I'm sure they are loyal and emotional, but they are tame compared to SEC fans.

Any connection between BYU fans and the crazies who play church basketball in terms of mind sets?

I don't know anything about sports, so please help me out: What's wrong with Bronco Mendenhall, and how is he different from any other college football coach?
