Question about new policy-is the net widening?

Post by _kairos »

My question is based on this scenario: Member X has gay Mormon brother married legally to his Mormon partner, a gay man. Are these two men apostates? If so does member X and also member X's straight TBM parents now required to disavow the brother and his partner in their same sex marriage so that member X and his parents can get a temple recommend ? That is, if adopted children must disavow SSM parents to get baptized at 18, is there a concomitant requirement for straight parents to disavow apostate adult SSM married children to get into the temple-is not there a question about associating with apostates?

If true Elder Christofferson and others like him have a problem?

just askin

As I read the policy, it concerns the relationship between a gay parent who has in the past or is presently cohabitating or married and their children. The policy, as far as I can tell, says nothing about the relationship between parents who have cohabitating/married gay children and people who have cohabitaing/married gay siblings.

In other words, Christoffersen and those like him have no problem. If Christoffersen's gay brother had children under 18 though, they would have a problem (if I interpret the policy correctly) because the policy applies to any gay person who has cohabitated/married a gay person in the past, not just the present. My understanding of Christoffersen's brother is that once upon a time he did cohabitate in a gay relationship, but since returned to the church.
There are some who call me...Tim.
