Okay, my take is that the psychologist acted unethically by her not being upfront about her LDS membership, and by her communications with the wife's lawyer.

Given that she should be aware of children's tendency to play down child abuse and to under report, she seems to have filed a report with the CPS and had a response that the abuse was unsubstantiated, and her view appears to be that it couldn't be classified as sexual abuse since having an erection whilst a girl was sitting on your lap is normal.

I'd say it was terribly handled by this mental health worker.

I don't understand where this is going.

At the moment it just seems to be a blog for embarrassing a number of people with relatively unsubstantiated accusations. I don't see how this ends up achieving justice for the kids involved? The fact that these disclosures are being made in public suggests to me that Karren won't be pursuing things beyond his blog postings.

As I understand it, a lot of people have come forward to him with their own stories and that he is working with various groups to get justice both for his daughter (whom he believes to have been sexually abused by her grandfather) and for them.

Doing an expose is what he's doing. He doesn't have to do anything more than this because it serves his purpose of getting people talking, which is exactly what he's accomplished. And by dealing with the elephant in the middle of the room rather than ignoring it. He's doing it to get it on the public record. How easier is it to publish something these days than through social media?

I'd say he's accomplished what he set out to do. Draw attention to a crooked elite running the church, while shedding light on a pervasive problem that few have any idea about - the denial and cronyism that happens all the time at Temple Square headquarters.

When you see what's happening to the church with its problems with telling the truth of its own history, the lengths it goes to cover things up over the annals of time, and then its desecration of families and individuals through some new policies targeting gay people and their children, well just more proof that the sins and hypocrisy of the men running the show are no better than the people they look down on and thumb their noses at.

Mormons need to really look long and hard at these people and not give them the pass they believe they're due. These are not men of God. They have a facade to keep up appearances, but are anything other than what they purport to be.

I agree. It's odd growing up thinking these men had some sort of special access to the Spirit or to God, and the deference shown to them is absolutely unwarranted and frankly a bit insane.

Abuse of a child is the lowest form of evil. Everyone involved should be jailed at the very least.

As far as the Church goes, I think that the Church becomes dangerously too involved in people's lives. My boyfriend's grandfather was a Methodist minister. He said that he would never think of calling members into his office and ask them about masturbation, etc. If someone wanted to come to him for counseling, they were welcome to. It would be kept confidential. There would be no recourse from the Church. Repentance was betwee you, the Lord, and anyone you personally wronged. There is no Church court in the Methodist Church. It seems like a much more Christian environment. Just my 2 cents.

I agree Liz, which is why the church policy that child abuse *may* incur discipline truly astounds me. We have had a big todo over here with the BBC and a guy called Jimmy Saville, who was a vile abuser of not only children but mentally handicapped individuals. He was buried as a hero. His superiors turned a blind eye because he was untouchable, such was the amount of charitable work he had done. He hid behind his public image and a culture of deference and silence, as well as an unwillingness to believe the victims which led to the continuation of his abuse. Silence is an enabler. So, I'm all for Ron and anyone else with the guts, to shout it from the roof tops.

Yeah, Ron's silence on the matter when his kids were kids is deafening.
