I had to fire General Flynn because he lied to the Vice President and the FBI. He has pled guilty to those lies. It is a shame because his actions during the transition were lawful. There was nothing to hide!

I must be really dumb. So you're saying Trump, who is President of the United States, like for real, not just a part in a movie or something, the guy who literally decides what is and isn't classified, knows about all the aliens in area 51 and all that, controls the nuclear football, this guy, he was supposedly ignorant of Flynn being questioned by FBI investigators? He didn't know about that? And him saying that he did know about that is therefore proof of what? That President has more up to date information than you do? Sorry, not getting it...

Trump was questioed before why he fired Flynn, and he said it was "because he lied to Pence."

Now he is saying it was because he lied to the FBI as well, unwittingly revealing that he already knew about him lying to FBI, something that wasn't revealed publicly until days later. This is also something he denied knowing when previously asked.

So you have a President knowing his man committed a crime, did nothing about it, and then asked the FBI to back off from doing his job to find out facts that Trump already knew.

That's obstruction of justice. The only reason it wasn't considered OofJ before was because Trump had plausible deniability of Flynn's crime. Not anymore.

orders, not the other way around. They aren't an independent branch of our government. Trump can force end any investigation he wants, inquire into any investigation, order that an investigation be opened. Etc. Pretty much whatever he wants. Goes with being president. So, no, I'm still not getting it.

That's not true at all and if you were trying to come up with an archtypal example of why a president should be impeached, "uses the FBI to persecute political foes and shield allies from legal consequence" would be about as as good as anyone could imagine.

In this is not at all normal news, George W. Bush's former ethics lawyer is on Twitter calling for a general strike - the long imagined dream of the hard left - if Trump fires Mueller over the weekend, which he seems to think is a distinct possibility.

I don't know how likely a termination of Mueller is at this point, but there's only so many arrows left in the quiver in the face of that kind of tyranny if Congress sits on their hands as they are likely to do. So that probably is the right approach if it happens.

In today's other Russia news, there's internal emails indicating that Trump was advised to go easy on Russia on sanctions for election interference - what Flynn was lying about his role in to the FBI - because Russia aided them in the election.

The best defense of that is down to, "That was sarcasm."
