Darth Vader and now Kylo Ren. Leia has also run the Resistance. If not always ruling properly, this one tiny family has had a disturbingly huge influence on galactic events.

[MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] Rey changes that.

But that's all part of the whole "Force is strong with this bloodline" narrative. [MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] Don't be surprised if Rey turns out to be related to them in some way.

I get why Luke said the Jedi had to end, but he seemed to have changed his mind at the end when he assured Kylo that he wouldn't be the last Jedi after all.
I like that he said the force doesn't belong to anyone, it just exists. But at least the Jedi were there to teach people interested in the force to control it and not fall to the dark side. I mean, without the Jedi or some kind of philosophical direction, what's to prevent the dark side from just taking over everyone that happens to feel the force in their lives? [MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] Rey was giving into it easier than anyone else.

As a stand-alone movie, it is good. Even very good. In the context of its overall narrative arc, it's quite disappointing. It's reputation is going to suffer with time once the glitz of it being well-made wears off. Rian Johnson is probably better suited to the stand-alone trilogy he's been given the green-light for.

I do agree with Mark Hamill in disliking how Luke's character was written. [MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] It really undermines what was accomplished through the original trilogy. The new movies continue to act as a soft reboot by remixing old plot points in a way that shrinks and flattens the world.

Ms. Jack seems to absorbed that because, up to the most recent movies, all the Skywalker family is done is have one member who fell to the dark side only to be redeemed at the end by his son's virtue. By needing to plunge the galaxy into darkness again to create conflict, and using another Skywalker family member to do it with the failures of yet another, that's what creates the sense that the whole tree is rotten.

Rey is slumdog millionaire Mary Sue. The movies are total and complete contrived BS. I'd say they're a bit better than the George Lucas prequels, but man they're unwatchable. Hrm, I can't really say that because I haven't watched The Force Awakens all the way through. TFA is on my cable feed and I've tried a handful of times to watch it, but... I dunno. It's just memberberries in space. TLJ will be the same for me. I'll pass.

I did think Rogue One was pretty entertaining, though!

Rey is not a Mary Sue. This is ordinarily one of those tells that somebody has been drinking the man-o-sphere / gamer-gate koolaide. Especially coming from a person who then admits to not even have watched the full movie.

She's derivative of Luke Skywalker's character and fills a similar kind of role in TFA.

I dunno. I liked Jyn's development and character in Rogue One. She seemed much more relatable, reliant on others (like Luke was), and part of a team that seemed susceptible to defeat.

[MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] Rey basically masters everything and moves the story line along without any of the hardships faced by the protagonist of the first three films. Basically while one character had to learn how to bowl, and would often end up with the ball in the gutter Rey's character had the bumpers up throughout the film.

But, then again, you see everything through the lens of mental illness Liberal racism and sexism. *shrugs*

Jedis bore the bejesus out of me. I'm tired of Star Trek, too. Good god, quit milking this crap and come up with something fresh. Effing corporate 'creatives'.

Altered Carbon is coming. Your brain will be required for a change.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence there's an ocean of complaints in the misogynist wing of the alt-right complaining that Rey is a Mary Sue with occasional rebuttals to the same. This is regarding a movie that you yourself claim to have not even actually watched all the way through. Rey is not a flawless, an empty vessel, or effortless admired by admirable characters. [MODERATOR NOTE: Click-and-drag to read:] She faces conflict and defeat both in TFA and TLJ.

Luke masters things quickly too. This is justified with throw-away biographical lines and a dash of the force, but it's a gimmick to how Star Wars plotting works. Rey is just following Luke in this regard, with the same writing gimmicks, though the film is a little more rushed in its pacing.

[MODERATOR NOTE: NO GODDAMN SPOILERS!!! BELIEVE IT OR NOT, NOT EVERYONE HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE YET!!!

If you wish to post a spoiler, if the background of your post is white, then start the spoiler with the tag [ color=white ] and end it with [ /color ] (without the spaces). If the background of your post is light blue, then start the spoiler with the tag [ color=#eeeeff ] and end it with [ /color ] (without the spaces).

You're asking, "How do I know what the background of my post will be?" Simple: If the last post's background is white, then yours will be light blue, and vice-versa. If you guess wrong--or if someone posts before you do--go back and edit your post.]

Shades is spoiler tagging a 2 year old movie? Um, Ok.

Regarding TLJ, you could always just start an anticipation thread if you don't want to participate in the thread that involves discussing movie reactions.
