and our world is very complicated, it is not black and white. In our world there is a lot of room for misinterpretation, misunderstanding, and ambiguity.
I, with others, have stated this repeatedly on this thread. In fact, can you bring forward an example of someone who has asserted the contrary on this thread?
Here's my position:
Chap wrote:It seems clear to me that the amount of unreported, unpunished, and relatively serious sexual molestation of woman by men has historically been rather large. Changing this very unjust situation will have costs for men as a gender: mainly, I think, through guilty men getting called out on their behaviour, and other men modifying their behaviour, but also, sadly, through a small number of innocent men getting unjustly accused.
The idea that we have to leave things as they were until we can think of a way of redressing the huge injustice done to women without risk of any deleterious consequences to men is not acceptable. It's time to change, and it's been time to change for a long long time already, without anything much being done about it.
And
Chap wrote:Were we were (and stayed for centuries) was very dangerous indeed for women. Men could be as irresponsible as they liked, and there was little risk of a penalty, especially if they chose their victims with a little care.
The present situation is more dangerous than it used to be for men.
I agree that society must do what it can to reduce the risk to the innocent - but in ways that do not amount, in effect, to saying 'Let's just go back to the way things were.'
Anything specific there that you have a problem about?

Three opera singers and a classical musician say that world-renowned conductor Charles Dutoit sexually assaulted them
What's going on with all these Liberal men who respect women so much they assault them???

Who on this board has given signs of believing that it is only men of a conservative tendency in politics who may yield to the temptation to use power to get away with molesting women?
Testosterone + power is all that is needed to create the situation that presents that risk.

Here's my deal. I think that in a number of these cases, the alleged perpetrator needs to be placed on suspension until an investigation and ruling (charges included) can take place. I don't necessarily think that in all cases the perp needs to be immediately tossed out on their butt.
Here's my other deal. You're making more work for me by making me open every link to come up with the name and affiliation when all I wanted to do with this thread was make a list I could maintain in an attempt to demonstrate the magnitude of these allegations in the sphere of celebrity.
I don't have tons of time to go through every post, look into every link. It's the holiday season--work with me please.

Could you just please at the top of your posts, start with this?

I've opened the links on some of your posts to verify that it's an allegation that fits the topic. All I'm asking for is a little clerical cooperation, so I can easily cp the name and affiliation and lob it on to the main list.

"Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy."
