If you know, just tell us.

I came on the scene this morning to find a thread in which he had wiped all of his posts. Bizarre.

Chap I'm going to leave the question open to see if others who have commented here read it before he deleted. I'll be back later to see if anyone has.

You really think that's why he departed the thread, Mak? Really?

I'm saying what I saw. We don't know everything that went on in his head, just what he shared with us. Second guessing is only that.

I think Ceeboo has left before and come back. I have myself. It's everybody's prerogative, temporary or permanent.

I see this is turning into on of those rather strange interactions in which Jersey Girl seems to indulge from time to time.

What does it remind me of? Ah, yes.

In my view the problem with Ceeboo’s original claim is that we see a lot of people across the political spectrum unhappy with Trump. Trumpists confuse resistance to Trump for a complete breakdown in dialogue between people on different points along the political spectrum. Support for Trump is a kind of personality cult that has been wedded to a populist movement predominantly on the Right. As with many cults of personality, there is an intractable loyalty to and assault on the personality at its center. The result is highly emotional reactions on all sides. THAT may make fruitful discussion almost impossible, but this is not solely or really attributable to an insurmountable political divide.

Succinct and well-stated, in my opinion.

We've had points of view in conflict since Adams and Jefferson. That's a healthy thing but it can be rough and tumble. It can't become a blood sport unless we want to replay the Civil War.

If it turns out to be the case that Trumpies care more about Trump than the Constitution, and Trump were to use that to attempt to establish an authoritarian regime, then a bloody civil war may be the unavoidable outcome. How that will turn out may hinge on how thoroughly Trumpism has subverted the weapon wielding institutions of our society. I hope and pray we don’t have to find out.
