More Americans have left Catholicism behind than any other religion in the U.S., according to a new report.
About 13 percent of American adults are former Catholics – people who were raised in the faith but now say they have no religion, or converted to Protestantism or other beliefs, according to a survey by Pew Research Center.
At the other end of the spectrum, 2 percent of U.S. adults report converting to Catholicism.

I wonder what the Catholic version of a missionary is called.
Should probably be called a Catheter, given all the members they're pissing away.

God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

I just think the history of the Catholic Church shows 2 things:
- Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
- Men and women may don robes, but they are still human beings.
There was a time when Europe was called Christendom, and Christendom meant the Catholic Church. When Protestantism swept across Europe, the Catholic Church launched the reformation. But beyond the current sex scandals, I think this current loss of faith represents a tectonic shift in our culture away from the older organized Judeo-Christian religions. It will be interesting to see the response of the Church to its current crisis.

I guess electing a liberal pope didn't help them much.
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

Several state AGs have now launched investigations. This is growing. And it will spread to other churches, just watch.

(RNS) — Last month, after Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro unveiled a bombshell 1,300-page grand jury report detailing the alleged sexual abuse of more than 1,000 children in his state by hundreds of Catholic priests, American Catholics called for more investigations into church documents. Some even demanded the federal government step in.
Now law enforcement officials in at least seven states — New York, New Jersey, Nebraska, New Mexico, Florida, Missouri and Illinois — appear to be launching their own inquiries or reviews of Catholic dioceses, often focusing on what Shapiro called secret church files thought to contain decades of allegations of child sex abuse by priests.

Could have something to do with all the systematically covered up child rape, but no, I'm sure it's that a Pope who has had the position for a few years and is wildly popular among American Catholics accounts for the high leave rate.
