Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson said that a long-running plot by Socialists to take over America was fueling recent allegations of sexual assault against President Donald Trump's nominee to the Supreme Court.
"There've been people in this country for a very long time....who don't like what this country represents," Carson told an audience of conservative activists. These forces he said, were now "like wet hornets" and "out of control."
I mean. Each political party wants to take over America. That's literally why we have elections, to hand over power to the winner. What was it about Ben Carson's statement that produced this fart of a post?

The fact that Ben Carson's statement was a ... windbreak of a statement, perhaps?

You're so weird sometimes. Of course a party member is going to describe the opposition with rhetoric. Do Leftists not do that?

There is in this universe a person who thinks that when somebody like Ben Carson talks about a socialist 'plot to take over America' he just means that they intend to do their best to win the next election ...

There is a person in this universe that somehow thinks socialists aren't embedded in academia, aren't getting a handle on the Democratic Party (in America), haven't secured a place in popular culture, and can't be bothered to be a student of history where socialists totes never existed and aren't attempting to become the de facto political bodies in western democracy.

Okay, let's play 'What if?'. What if Carson was right, and this was a part of a vast socialist plot to take over the country. The result is what, exactly? Perhaps a slightly less conservative justice on a court that is already conservative? I'm still not seeing Che Guevara running down the street. How does the candidacy of Kavanaugh represent the last best hope of democracy?
What bothers me is that the only part of America that many Americans acknowledge as being 'real' is the part with which they identify, like when Sarah Palin used to talk about the 'real' America, as if the rest of the country is fake.
But it also points to the intellectual laziness of such arguments that paint the opposition with a single hue. What happens a lot on both sides of the debate is that people look at the most extreme elements of the other side and say that is the ultimate goal of everyone on the other side. Nuance is lost. We're all just socialists and fascists.

Oddly enough this image pretty much summarizes your excellent post (note the unintentional irony of a jack boot being used):

The boot in the picture used by DrC has laces. So unfortunately for his supposed irony, it is just a common old boot, not a jackboot, which does not have laces.
canpakes - what's that stuff? Halva? Cheese? Tofu? There's obviously a cultural reference I am missing here.
