Re: Kavanaugh and Perjury
Just waiting for Republicans to come out saying, "Boys will be boys. What teenage boy hasn't participated in drugging and gang raping girls?"
God belief is for people who don't want to live life on the universe's terms.

That's not how this works at all. Maybe there's a school house rock video you could watch or something? I don't know. There's been normal Supreme Court nomination processes that only took a few days in the past. There's been Trump admin officials requiring Senate confirmation that have been confirmed inside of a day.
Senate procedures on confirmations are controlled by rules dictated by a bare Senate majority that Republicans currently own. They definitely have time to confirm another nomination if they want to. They can push a nominee through committee and to a floor vote as rapidly as they want. Is it good practice to rush a vote? No. Can they? Sure.
There is a difference between technical possibility and practical plausibility. You're presenting a very unlikely 0.01% possibility as the plausibly likely outcome. You're a fool if you think the GOP majority will come together in perfect unison to ram a Supreme Court pick through in a day, not to mention taking time away from their respective re-election campaigns to do so. Name your price, I'll wager you any amount.

I looked up the time from nomination to confirmation of Supreme Court justices:

James Byrnes was confirmed on the day he was nominated. So was Edward White. I am curious to learn how this was impossible because the government doesn't work like that. Many more were confirmed within the window of time that still exists between now and when the next Senate takes over.

There are two GOP senators in reelection campaigns that have a realistic chance of losing. Two. There are many more Democrats who have a realistic chance of losing. This is why McConnell has attempted to extend Senate business this year because keeping Senators away from reelection campaigning benefits Republicans this cycle. So one of your two arguments for why they won't do that is ignorant. You also seem to believe that Senators cannot vote to confirm a nomination in a lame duck session when they can. It's legal.
McConnell already has plans to keep confirming federal judges during the lame duck session as it is:
https://www.rollcall.com/news/politics/ ... -new-years
The other argument you offer is a point of difference between us. I think Republicans can be quickly united around a candidate. You think they can't. I think Republicans, a party that united to block a moderate Supreme Court nominee for over a year just because he was nominated by a Democrat president, will not let a nomination slip through their fingers in a lame duck session. They will vote that person in to prevent Democrats from blocking them. Your disagreement with this is a reflection of the same naïveté or ignorance that also has you saying everything else you are. This is the same party that has more than once voted to confirm egregiously unqualified candidates in bloc votes within the year.
The kind of longshot hopes Democrats are resting on to prevent all Republican nominees is other nominees having a serious 11th hour problem that rankles a rogue Republican Senator or two or, I don't know, Republican Senators dying at the wrong time.
What do you want to bet?

Re: Kavanaugh and Perjury
Kavanaugh's attorneys have just proved his innocence by providing his personal calendar from 1982. No mention of raping anyone or even almost raping anyone.

I wonder if this was a defense tactic used in the Bill Cosby trial.

Like I said, name your price :) A grand? Just to be clear. Your position is that if Kavanaugh is not confirmed, a second nominee will be rapidly confirmed before the midterms? So if Kavanaugh is confirmed, bet is cancelled. However, if he is not confirmed, withdrawn, whatever, a second person will be nominated, and confirmed before midterms? I'm down. Let's do this.

No, my position is that if Kavanaugh is not confirmed, a second Republican nominee will be confirmed before the new Senate takes over if Democrats win the Senate. Republicans, in otherwords, will get their nominee on the bench.Water Dog wrote:EAllusion wrote:What do you want to bet?

Nothing has to happen before midterms.

That's actually a pretty charming calendar. Weird that someone would actually keep their teen calendar, though. Maybe mom just liked holding onto mementos and whatnot.
I'm not seeing anything, but did Ms. Ford ever nail down a date or a close approximation of a date regarding the alleged incident?

Holy crap FDR had some fast confirmations...
