You mean if I am a Jew I can't just wish colleagues 'Happy Holidays'?
I have to wish people a 'Happy pseudo-seder in honour of the totally fictitious date of birth of this Jewish heretic who has caused us untold trouble over the last two millennia' (a.k.a. 'Happy Christmas')?
Zadok: I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis. Maksutov: That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.
Substupid really is too stupid to understand he's basically proving the point of the Oped.
Just last night some neighbors two houses down had a get together for all the neighbors, there were probably 60 people there. Later that night when we got home my wife told be one of the guys started going off on Democrats in front of several people who we knew to be Democrats. They just kept their silence and walked off. I mean he literally said, "Stupid Democrats could ruin our economy if given the chance." The comments was from left field because everyone was watching the football game, and suddenly this guy decided to bring up politics.
My wife doesn't care about politics. In Brazil there are two dozen political parties. It isn't as black and white as it is here so not everyone is viewed as an enemy or ally. Here, that is exactly how Republicans view other US citizens. They're just dying to know whether you like Trump or not and if you don't, you're immediately labeled a Liberal even if you're just some Conservative minding his own business who happens to dislike sexual assaulters and racists on principle.
But after that incident my wife said something that made sense. She said that she never hears Democrats or Liberals make these kinds of comments in public. It is always Republicans. Now that may have something to do with living in a Red state, but still. You have to be a true asshole to go to someone else's house and make a comment in front of a dozen listening ears knowing there are probably a few people you're about to insult.
I also remember saying to myself that sometimes I wish a Republican would get elected President so my parents would finally stop wasting the finals years of their life away watching FOX news and reinforcing their idiotic attitudes. But the exact opposite happened. Last week I asked my step-dad a question about a Calvin Ridley, and he asked "what team does he play for?" And I said the Atlanta Falcons. He responded, "I don't watch NFL anymore." This pissed me off because this was like one of three topics in which he and I could ever have conversations that lasted more than 20 seconds. But I knew that he hadn't abandoned the nightly ritual of FOX News brainwashing.
With Trump in office they can't just be happy their guy won, they have to up the ante and push the fear-mongering throttle to overdrive. They have to voice their moronic opinion on just about everything and turn it into a political thing. For Republicans and FOX, it isn't enough to be in power. They have to mock, berate and humiliate the "other." Because make no mistake about it, that's exactly how they view the country. You're either a Trump supporter or you're not really an American.
Conversely, I don't remember anyone on the Left mocking McCain after he lost the election, or anyone constantly berating his voters, insisting they're still butthurt over their boy losing.
For these people, the sadistic high they get is in the treatment of those who weren't on their side during the election. And the only way they can get that feeling again is by creating more victories, like the Kavanaugh vote, or the fact that Trump is getting away with tax fraud, or the fact that he's destroying the environment, or the fact that he's creating record debt, or the fact that he lies openly and gets away with it, etc. Their sadistic high from hearing about a border wall is only partly about fear of immigrants, the rest is about knowing how much it upsets the "others." And anyone who spends any amount of time on social media knows this to be true.

I do think social media amps up the acrimony, but yeah, that is a very clear message from a subset of people on the right. They delight in perceiving other people's pain if those people aren't ideologically aligned. If you're like that, aren't you admitting your own pain?
It's no wonder people are calling them whiny little bitches these days.

I wasn't that upset to see McCain lose. Had McCain or even Romney won, we'd never had Trump.
“There were mothers who took this [Rodney King LA riots] as an opportunity to take some milk, to take some bread, to take some shoes ... They are not crooks.”
This liberal would be about socializing … uh, umm. … Would be about, basically, taking over, and the government running all of your companies.
Which group is it again that flips out if someone kneels during the national anthem to protest police impunity or in large numbers manages to take offense at the phrase "Season's Greetings"?
Maybe this poll doesn't capture propensity for offense so much as attitudes towards particular kinds of offenses contextually assumed from the poll question.
Good, we agree that Schmo's lopsided chatacterization was idiotic. Being whiny isn't a partisan issue let alone platform.

I'm starting to wonder if Rapublican resentment is related to their propensity to embrace BS. They have to know, at some level, they are full of crap, and it has to be tiring defending what you know deep down inside are comfort food myths. I mean, they just found out their hero is a major fraud (if any of them bother to pay attention).
What it really boils down to is people thinking their lives are crappy and blaming their woes on Democrats because they find impossible to take responsibility for themselves. The only adjective that comes to mind is pathetic.
