I dislike this and I'll tell you why. I have answered any question that has been posed to me on this thread. I've answered as honestly as I possibly can. When it comes to discussing my faith, the Bible, biblical concepts, I operate in real life and on this board exclusively based on this:
1 Peter 3:15 But in your hearts revere Christ as LORD. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, (continues in context, of course)
So I maintain a rule here (and in real life) that I don't shove my beliefs down anyone's throat and only answer when asked. People have asked me direct questions and I have answered.
If you're using my good faith responses for the express purpose of damned with me, I won't answer you any further on this topic.

This story wasn't about 3 guys who have fire resistant abilities. The story clearly provides an extremely important piece of information (it's actually the entire lesson is the story). This is that there was a 4th figure in the fire. The fourth figure is what saved the three guys. Just like the story of Daniel in the Lion's den - This story also provides the critical piece of information that the Angel of the Lord was in the den with Daniel - and it was The Angel of the Lord who closed the mouths of the lions, saving Daniel.

And Acts has the ability to resist physical damage from a falling building when the Lord drops a prison down to let Apostles out on a couple of occasions as I recall. Just wondering how consistent the fire resistance was. Have you found any evidence it comes with being born again? or Ceebs? Just doing some research for the game of MDB Bible Study.

I agree that we have talented story tellers here. Microscope might be fun, although I’ve never tried it in message board form.
Why not create a strategy thread for the above purposes?
Good idea. EA, if you wouldn’t mind, would you please move my above posts to a new thread? Thanks.

Am I damned with you? I don't know. The thread has a Calvinball-esque quality to it in my opinion, so I'm playing by the rules I sense apply. Those being, if I assert I believe something about the Bible, then that sticks and anyone who has a problem with it is entitled to assert something else but no one can examine anything based on historical, archeological, or higher/text critical evidence. It seems to me that any question that pushes to get beyond a superficial view of a thing gets ignored. So, if playing by these rules is damned with you, it seems that is the nature of MDB Bible Study.
That said, if we could get something interesting off the ground like a story RPG with someone like Res' apparently deep knowledge of the field of options I'd much rather play that sort of game. Or talk seriously with someone about the Bible. I enjoy discussions about the Bible that are grounded in something that can be discussed, and is responsive to evidence/counter-evidence rather than just Calvinball rules of asserted belief and interpretation. But until one of those options solidifies, this is the game on the table so Calvinball/MDB Bible Study it is.

Jersey Girl wrote:Oh yeah. I know what you're talking about now. I haven't ever given it much thought really. I suppose it's about God's protection and while I do believe in that, I don't particularly see a need to go handling snakes or walking through fire and that sort of thing.
So in my own life, I would say that God does have the ability to protect me from danger and provide for me in some dangerous circumstance I might encounter. (I want to say more about that, but I want to mull it over what I want to share here.) And when I say danger, I'm actually thinking in terms of both physical and spiritual danger.
In any case, if someone really were to tie me to a stake and set me on fire, I suppose what I'd expect is that it'd hurt like hell until my nerve endings got fried, I'd eventually die, go to Jesus and if there really is no afterlife, I wouldn't go anywhere at all and I wouldn't know the difference.
Plus there's the whole thing in 1 Corinthians about the above gifts falling away...but I don't think that's supposed to happen until the Second Coming...I could be wrong about that.
Does that help anything?
To answer your serious response with a serious response, I think Mormon views about garments providing protection as well as tithing providing protection from the day of burning are the only times I've ever heard anyone seriously state a belief that faith in Christ provided a blanket form of protection. Typically it was more along the lines of God could intervene to protect someone in a unique, miraculous way based on the immediate need if it suited God's purposes. Mormons have very defined beliefs about most of the promises in Matthew 16, and that they aren't the sort of thing a person messes around with and tempts God by playing with snakes, babbling in another tongue in a Pentecostal manner, or whathaveyou. Faith healing is done differently in Mormonism as well. My original question was based on the snake thing coming immediately to mind but having no idea if there were other views among more mainstream Christians since your typical Mormon wouldn't go around handling snakes, either, but would swear they know a story of someone who survived their car catching on fire because they were endowed. I think between yours and Ceebs' posts it confirmed that in general belief isn't inherently tied to a belief in some form of blanket special protection, but possibly miraculous protection as needed as God wills it. Fair enough.

Fiasco is the extent of my story game experience. I've done my share of other table top and RPG play but always more dice/rules heavy or GM-led games so. I like Fiasco a lot and have a copy of the original game so I've been toying with attempting to format a scenario around the themes we've been discussing and posting it. But that would take some time. I'm not opposed to it, and wouldn't mind bouncing ideas around to fill out the scenarios, relationships, etc., etc. that make sense. So, that's a thought.
But I've downloaded the file you shared and will also check it out. If you think there's a good fit somewhere, I'm more than willing to jump in and follow the direction you think would work best. I think it would be interesting to give it a try. :)

Me too, I haven’t done RPG play before but I’ve always been interested. Unless this is like golf or something where newbies are too impossibly gauche to play (!) then I’ll just observe. If allowed.
