It's not doctrine unless all 15 of us teach it. Oaks.

Oh wow. The comments at that millennial star link are quite entertaining. Clearly, no one has the slightest clue what Mormon doctrine is. Even the BYU religion professor from the taped interview won’t commit, as it’s not even as recognizable as porn, apparently.

Interesting. So if something has changed, it’s not doctrinal.
Would love somebody to post those nine basic doctrines of the Church that haven’t changed since the Restoration...

Doctrine is what the current prophets, seers, and revelators are teaching. They include eternal, essential truths necessary for our salvation and meet three criteria:
Doctrine is eternal; it does not change through time.
Doctrine is sustained by the united voice of the Council of the Twelve Apostles and the First Presidency.
Doctrine is necessary for our salvation.
Interesting. So if something has changed, it’s not doctrinal.
On LDS.org, the nine basic doctrines of the Church are listed and are now the current focus of the seminary Doctrinal Mastery program.

“When we are confronted with evidence that challenges our deeply held beliefs we are more likely to reframe the evidence than we are to alter our beliefs. We simply invent new reasons, new justifications, new explanations. Sometimes we ignore the evidence altogether.” (Mathew Syed 'Black Box Thinking')

I'll leave it to others with a bit less prejudice to determine whether or not you're telling the truth.
Go back and listen to the podcast for starters.

I took a look at the document referenced, and it was surprising how hit or miss it was. It did not clarify what defines doctrine, and in fact introduced some additional conflicting ideas. Writing a catechism is tricky, especially when no one seems to agree on the underlying principles.

Start at the 14:45 mark. These are doctrines of a salvific nature that at their core remain fundamentally the same.
Again, I would recommend this particular podcast done by Laura Hales as being a worthwhile listen.

Philo Sofee wrote:That literally eliminates the entire New Testament. Way to go Oaks..... what a dork.
and he eliminated apologetics too. He said, "Excessive reliance on personal teachings or speculations may even draw us aside from concentrating on learning and efforts that will further our understanding and help us go forward on the covenant path."

Remember, our beloved apostle Dallin H. Oaks just taught, "Excessive reliance on personal teachings or speculations may even draw us aside from concentrating on learning and efforts that will further our understanding and help us go forward on the covenant path".
So stop recommending things that are not approved by the church.

You don't really believe/think that, do you? Those that do love him wouldn't be dissing him.

If you had actually listened to this podcast you wouldn't have said this.

Mormons cannot defend what and when a teaching is doctrine. An all knowing God cannot reveal it right the first time, so later his prophet has to change it under inspiration of the Holy Ghost, and then when it becomes inconvenient they reduce a revealed contingent truth, a relative truth only for a time, to a mere policy and they imagine that saves their bacon. In all that they still have no actual eternally true doctrine whatever. Oh they love to blather about "core doctrine" this or "core doctrine" that to be sure, but nothing is eternal from either their God or his Holy Ghost as earlier "core" doctrines were revealed, and then reduced by later dudes under inspiration to mere policy and man thinking on his own. It's always going to be a mess because God cannot actually teach eternal truth to the man he made, its beyond him to do so. The fallibility of man overdoes the infallible skills of an all knowing deity.
Incidentally, this is precisely the problem Harrell has in his book "This is My Doctrine" which I am now working on reviewing. Yes, it really is as bad as I said above, and worse. There never has been an eternal and true doctrine revealed that lasts forever in Mormonism. ALL truths revealed are contingent and subject to change, hence only fallible and soon to be over ruled later revelations. Time outdates all revelations from an eternal everlasting God, Mormonism is the proof. It really is that flippin bad as you will see when I start putting up my review in serial format. Time is stronger than God's "eternal" words and holy revelations.
