Gad -

Religious right media is seeped in pro-civil war rhetoric these days. I do not view that crowd as mostly burn-outs incapable of interacting with the real world. I don't think civil war is plausible for a variety of reasons, not the least of which being the lack of two militarized factions, but I also don't agree that calls for a civil war are currently just the domain of internet tough guys and fail-militias.

Anyway, here's Rick Wiles, one of the most influential religious right media personalities, calling for the military to step in and install Donald Trump in case he is impeached in the context of this nascent religious right pining for a civil war. His rant has also has some subtle anti-Semitic themes. Let me know if you pick them up:

Wiles' TruNews regularly gets press credentials and favorable treatment from the Whitehouse while the Whitehouse, paid for by the American people, attacks "fake news" like the Washington Post.

Peeking in on the religious right media and knowing the scope of its influence is like walking into your basement, discovering it's on fire, and walking back up while acting like everything is fine.

that's some messed up stuff for sure.

If the religious right does grab their guns and declare civil war, we'll just turn off the Internet. Then what will they do?

The people the religious right backs are much more likely to be in charge of the US military than fighting it in a "it's come to this..." scenario. I view this as more of a way to fantasize about killing libs or otherwise crushing them under their boots.

Shea faces other challenges. Washington House Republicans have stripped him of a party leadership position and some campaign donors have abandoned him. A former FBI agent hired by the House is due to report Monday on a three-month investigation to determine whether Shea incited political violence, a finding that could lead to his censure or removal from office.

Online chat records obtained recently by the Guardian newspaper show Shea and other patriot-movement members discussing violence, conspiracy theories, surveillance of adversaries and support for white nationalists.

Yeah, you see these guys all over the country. Hyperparanoid about some aspect of the country's cultural change that makes them want to kill people. I grew up in Spokane, and there were always a sort of subcurrent of anti-government-conspiracy-theorist vibe going on with the adults. It's too bad it somehow survived enough to have traction. My guess is this guy is savvy enough to parlay his strategy to the Boomers who elect him year after year.

Doc, I always forget that you grew up in Spokane. That N.E. Corner of Washington and northern panhandle of Idaho is still a little spooky. The Aryan Nations was busted as an organization, but the folks who lean that way are still there.

https://www.adl.org/blog/the-boogaloo-e ... -civil-war

It’s not often an old joke evolves into a catchphrase for mass violence, but that’s just what’s happened this past year when a variety of extremist and fringe movements and subcultures adopted the word “boogaloo” as shorthand for a future civil war.

It has a Facebook page: https://m.Facebook.com/Civil-War-2-Elec ... 509695548/

Other than the youtube videos, I also watched the documentary, "The Gray State". in one of the youtube videos, there was also mention of a self-appointed border patrol guy who killed his family and himself.
