Unfortunately, during tonight's protest in front of the Police Operations Center, several protesters engaged in criminal activity. Although several lawful orders were given to disperse, protesters failed to comply. Officers were forced to introduce chemical irritants into the crowd in order to disperse the unlawful and violent gathering. Please avoid the downtown area as we work to safely bring this protest back to a peaceful state.

The mask wearing in this context is also pretty funny. Wearing a mask marginally protects the wearer from contracting coronavirus and likely provides a significant benefit from preventing infectious spread if worn correctly. But you're kinda throwing all safety for oneself and others out the window if you're also robbing a liquor store in the middle of a riot.

The President infamously praised China's crackdown on Tienanmen Square when sane Americans thought it was horrific. With each itchy trigger tweet you can almost taste his desire to use live rounds against the public.
Wish American cities would quit hiring savage thugs to be police officers.criminals.
I really wonder what the actual percentage of police officers is who chose the job primarily because they wanted to serve the community as opposed to mostly wanting raw power. I fear it's not favorable.
In terms of what can be done, crushing police unions is probably the most practical thing.
Like I said, the real problem is bad training. I think training makes the police too paranoid about everything. The solution is better training and a better salary.
