Yep, these are all quotes from 2018 about something you didn't know or care about, because it wasn't a presidential election year.
In 2018 the Flu Put More of a Strain on U.S. Hospitals Than COVID-19 has....so why are you in such a panic today?

It is astonishing that people are still this stupid on the subject. According to CDC estimates there were 34,157 deaths during the 2018-2019 Flu season.

That's for the entire year, at an average of 93 deaths per day.

COVID's death tally is already between 150,000-200,000 in just six months which is an average of more than 800 dead Americans per day, and it is likely going to get much worse. And the reason it will get worse is because we're a nation of Right Wing morons like you who see conspiracy in everything.

Demonstrably false.

At this point people like ajax should be wondering, how come other countries managed to be up and running at 100% while putting COVID-19 behind them in a matter of just a few months?

Gee, I wonder what they did differently.

This fact proves that the death tally in the USA wasn't "inevitable" no matter what Trump decided to do.

Here's your daily COVID-19 count:

Canada: 371
Spain: 543
Italy: 214
United Kingdom: 642
Australia: 173
Germany: 395
Japan: 197
France: 621
Greece: 50
United States: 63,004

Is this the way you want to live? Is this what you want American exceptionalism to look like?

We all have a choice. We can embrace unhinged YouTube conspiracies about how these numbers are all a fake plot (spoiler alert: they aren't) to unseat a reality TV star-turned-president. Or, we can embrace science and reality, and we can vote in November for Joe Biden. Any other choice or mythic middle ground or third party you think you have, isn't real. It functionally supports one of these two choices.

You misunderstand the purpose of the shut down.
Where did I say this was the purpose of the shutdown? I'm saying this was an argument given to me on this board against my belief that it wasn't doing much good to shut down the economy. So I'm bumping this to Doc and whoever else hit me with this argument three months ago to chime in and answer the questions I laid out.
Gotcha.
The purpose of the shutdown in my view was not to keep everyone from being exposed, which I think is inevitable, but to keep rate of hospitalizations down to a number our hospital system could handle. Flattening the curve doesn't change the area under the curve. The same number of people are going to get sick.

I'm done talking at this point until I get some straight answers rather than partisan political campaign rhetoric.
Fab.

In late February to mid-March there was a lot of focus on "flattening the curve" - meaning slowing the rate of spread so hospital systems aren't overwhelmed resulting in substandard care while also shaving off some number of the total number of ill. As time has gone on and more information about the disease has become available, it's apparent you can drastically reduce the overall caseload through social policy initially recommended to flatten the curve. Most other countries are doing this with their success ranging from near total eradication to drastically better than the United States.

Travel from the US to most of the rest of the world is now severely constrained because we are a complete dumpster fire compared to most of the world. Ajax18 finally got his wall around the US.

You're saying the protests were outdoors and the protesters were wearing masks, hence the protests only caused a slight if any spread of Covid. The US open is outdoors. Professional football and baseball are both outdoors. The fans can wear masks. Why do these things need to be shut down?
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

There you go again, your childish brain is constantly in "Look squirrel" mode whenever your arguments are refuted. Who said the US open needs to be shut down? College football packs 100,000 people together in multiple stadiums across the country every weekend 15 weeks straight. But that's a decision left to private entities and they'll make those decisions on their own. You were comparing indoor rallies with outdoor demonstrations and now pivot to this, which is a never ending cycle with you.

Who said the US open needs to be shut down?
Bill DeBlasio. That was the point of the original post. The only gatherings permitted are BLM or ANTIFA protests. Were the people in Michigan permitted to protest or did that accelerate the spread of Covid because it was the right protesting rather than the left?
And when the confederates saw Jackson standing fearless as a stone wall the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.
