...the mortality rate for the seasonal flu is .1% while this is pinging at about 3.5%. That’s ~12,250,000 Americans if everyone catches this thing before there’s a vaccine. Hopefully the mortality rate is actually lower because more people have actually caught the Covidz and powered through it who simply weren’t tested.
I don't think the real death rate in the US is that high either, but I'd be very surprised if the US rate were as low as the world average. We have a lot of fat fu-cks who don't take care of themselves in this country (because free-dumb) and are a lot more likely to die from COVID than people who eat properly and exercise.

The real irony is the GOP base is likely at higher risk on average than the Democrat base. Sometimes I do think we should let it rip and fully open the economy. Let the fat fu-ck GOP base die. They're the weak link in this country. I'm sure they would love to contribute to getting the economy back on track. They keep saying so, anyway.

Bringing the world up to date on Covid-19, tonight President Trump said that New Zealand had a "massive breakout" on Wednesday.

On Wednesday, New Zealand announced 6 new cases, while the United States announced 47,408 new cases.
Trump's math is almost as good as John Gee's....

I love how idiots like subs posts a graph without realizing it only furthers the argument they think they're refuting.

And it's a good thing, too; otherwise, none of them would get paid.

And the incontrovertible fact still remains that the USA with only 4.5% of the world's population has 24% of all the known covid-19 cases and nearly 22% of the known fatalities. There is simply no way to avoid or spin away the reality that few, if any nations, have dealt with the pandemic worse than the Trump administration. This alone is imminently sound justification for voting Trump out of office, and it is far from the only sound justification for voting him out. And please don't make an idiot of yourself again by claiming there is something inherently slippery or subjective about the term "confirmed cases" in this case, any more than when the same term is used by the CDC in reference to any other common disease or national health concern.

Neither can you or anyone else escape or sugarcoat the reality that the Obama administration established a plan and a team for responding to potential pandemic threats, that worked spectacularly well in the case of the Ebola threat (especially compared to Trump's coronavirus response), and which Trump promptly discarded and dismantled almost as soon as he took office. There is no way to honestly dispute or escape that fact, when Trump himself boastfully admitted to doing just that at the time, almost certainly just to spite Obama.

If you still think Trump has done a good job vis a vis the coronavirus pandemic, you are either spectacularly deluded and/or nearly as pathologically dishonest and corrupt as Trump himself.

And Trump is still doubling down on claiming credit for the VA Choice Act, which was passed and signed into law by Obama before Trump was even nominated, let alone elected, despite the hundreds of times that claim has been debunked.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.

RNC's potential "super-spreader event."

Trump is obviously much more concerned about his ratings than about the safety and health of his supporters.
Since he was referring to TV ratings, a favorite subject of his and something few of us were paying attention to during the deluge of news this week, here’s a primer: ABC’s first NBA playoff game of this season fell 21% in viewership compared with last year.

Yet the NBA is still doing better than the RNC.

Wednesday’s convention averaged about 17.3 million viewers across six networks — ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. That’s a 31% drop from the same night at the RNC four years ago, when the same six outlets drew 24.4 million viewers. It’s also lower last week’s Democratic National Convention, which brought in 22.8 million viewers on its third night.

Trump’s also sagging in the national polls, where he’s trailing Biden by anywhere from 7 to 14 points. His mishandling of the pandemic is at the forefront, and it’s doubtful the RNC’s grand finale did much to bolster confidence outside his base. As ever, with this questionable businessman-turned-reality-TV president, it’s important to read the fine print: The message was “Vote for Trump and he’ll keep you safe."*

*COVID-19 excluded.
It seems like Trump is giving up even the pretense of being concerned about beating the covid-19 pandemic. Undoubtedly significant numbers of corona virus cases are going to come out of the closely packed crowd on the Whitehouse south lawn on August 28. This will be, for some of them, the likely reward for enduring the 70 minutes of the most boring acceptance speech in history.

ETA: I found this excerpt from the above linked article particularly amusing and ironic:
It was notable that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell taped his remarks hundreds of miles away in his home state of Kentucky, socially distanced in an open field. He lambasted the Democrats for telling Americans what to do, even when they can and can’t go to school. The Republicans “will continue to support American families as we defeat the coronavirus and return our economy to the envy of the world,” McConnell said, the surrounding tall grass as his witness.
No precept or claim is more likely to be false than one that can only be supported by invoking the claim of Divine authority for it--no matter who or what claims such authority.
