Maybe "exhaustion" is the better term, then. Or "too many reports, too little time." *Res Ipsa wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 6:48 pmWe work pretty hard to try and enforce the rules uniformly, regardless of who the person is. Great point, Themis. Just like in his latest trolling post, he tries at Babylon Bee level humor saying how A-Mike would have to become some big progressive to be left alone by the moderators here. Just as the truckers are lying and misrepresenting the RCMP's actions, Binger misrepresents the Moderators as cracking down on A-Mike as due to politics, when in reality it's due to his persistent foul mouth and attacks on other posters. Binger himself probably holds the record on this forum for getting away with the most persistent personal attacks on other participants. He's very entitled, and nearly gets a free pass from the mods.
It's not just a "regular guy" tactic, good old Vladimir is doing the same thing. "The Ukraine is threatening us with nuclear weapons, we have no choice but to peacefully occupy Donbas." Basically the same logic as Canadian truckers / Binger.
*A math problem. If a poster posts 40 posts a day, 75% of which get reported, resulting in 90% of those being reported getting moved, and the three moderators each, on average, respond to reports by moving 6 posts a day, after a month does the poster look like he's getting a free pass?
You may assume that the moderators divvy up the work randomly without looking at the name of the offender; that a nonzero amount of reports are made daily on other posters, and that a nonzero amount of moved posts result daily from those reports.
This math problem is not based on real events, and bears no resemblance to any current situation. Really. I promise.

Think, for example, of the investment the moderators have made in the future and also [FR 2, personal attack deleted. -cp-] is today. Maybe even way less even. A few seconds to move a mouse and click the buttons to make red fonts and to make a whateverish reference to a rule is a small sacrifice for the future of the community.
Thanks Res, Xeno and Shades.

Re the math, recalculate if there are four moderators. Does anything change about your answer? No? : DMarcus wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 7:45 pmMaybe "exhaustion" is the better term, then. Or "too many reports, too little time." *

Re: Trucker Protest in Canada
When I found that the rule for being a moderator was not an actual rule, but rather a hole made by a loop, I volunteered to be the fourth moderator. I was denied, unfortunately. I think it is a shame though, because, darn, we could use a moderator around here that understands how to meet adversaries with profane judgment on their terms or conditions.
Anyways, denied. Best to weigh the questions based on three moderators, not four.

Right, that's where I was going with it. Unquestionably, the mods are working hard to keep up with binger, but there are only so many hours in the day. A small percentage of his posts slip through the cracks and lo, he's left everyone else in the dust in terms of getting away bad behavior. That's why I say, ban binger for good.Marcus wrote:A math problem...
He could just cut the violent personal attacks and obscenities, but that will never happen. Allow me to explain. Aside from the whole lack of self-control thing and need for attention, staying under constant pressure from mods hedges his position with the possibility of bias. Sure, he's aware he's crossed the line, but "others are just as bad" and get away with it, therefore, maybe the real reason he's punished is that the board can't handle his intense ideas? Punishing him for his language is merely a pretense to silence his penetrating thought. Yes, he knows he's trolling and mostly looking to disrupt, but he also believes he has the pulse on old-fashioned commonsense the way nobody else does and that even his most flippant quips have a deeper wisdom for those with ears to hear. After all, we did have one good-hearted poster who announced "truth" every time binger sprung a leak and insulted everybody. So, you know, we're all aware he's got us in his crosshairs, and our only way to avoid the truth is to find technicalities as pretense for censuring him. No insults and bad language (or starting countless superfluous threads), then no mod pressure or complaints, and then how to explain the fact that he's free to say whatever he wants, even though he's primarily ignored or brushed off?
We can't take farmers and take all their people and send them back because they don't have maybe what they're supposed to have. They get rid of some of the people who have been there for 25 years and they work great and then you throw them out and they're replaced by criminals.

Re: Trucker Protest in Canada
tl;dr version here: Binger should be banned because when we insult him directly, he hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. When we insult him with presuppositions, he hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. When we insult large swaths of the population, he hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. So let's ban him permanently so we can feel better. Way better. Super duper better.Gadianton wrote: ↑Wed Feb 23, 2022 9:35 pmRes wrote:We work pretty hard to try and enforce the rules uniformly, regardless of who the person is. This is fun. : D
Based on your recently-voiced sentiments, I changed a few words.
“Canpakes should be removed because when we insult Canpakes directly, Canpakes hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. When we insult Canpakes with presuppositions, Canpakes hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. When we insult large swaths of the population, Canpakes hits back directly and does not just run away or submit. So let's remove Canpakes permanently so we can feel better. Way better. Being as that you’ll reject that retelling, you’ll never been able to stand your own behavior, regardless of whether or not you’re addressing it honestly, or dressing it up as a noble endeavor.

Well that raised the hairs on the back of my neck. That's a solid insight into the mind of our resident troll, but dear god, it's creepy as hell.
