I don't find it really odd, because you yourself clearly explained that BOTH groups told you that you had no right to see the results of their investigations:
So because someone has the right to do something, that makes it in no way shady?

If I'm not mistaken, this is the same forum that slams the church for not disclosing any sort of financials and hiding behind its religious exemptions.

I'm applying Occam's Razor on this one. John doesn't want to release the letter because it makes him and Open Stories Foundation look bad and doesn't actually clear them at all.
You didn't ask if it was shady, you asked if it was odd. It's not odd, for the reasons you stated. I don't think Dehlin's behavior has been appropriate in the past, on many levels, but I've already expressed those opinions. All I can do now is not donate.

I find it silly to have have an issue with the dude because he is making money at the firm he owns and founded and he is paying himself from the "revenue."
John Dehlin does not own the Open Stories Foundation, which runs Mormon Stories Podcast.
Okay. Great. So who did you report, the employee or the owners/employers?

I received a letter from the IRS some time in the fall acknowledging that my complaint had been received, but stating clearly that any outcome would not be communicated to me, unless I were to receive an award. The point is this: John could have been fined tens of thousands of dollars by the IRS and no one but John would know about it.

Do I know he's been fined? I absolutely do not. Is there a good chance he was fined? Every IRS lawyer I talked to said my complaint would absolutely lead to an IRS audit and they wouldn't be surprised at a modest fine levied at both John and Open Stories Foundation.

But again, we will never know.

jpatterson, do you have confidence in your evidence presented to the IRS, and in the audit process? If you do, then I’m guessing that you feel Dehlin was fined some amount as a result of the investigation, and that ‘justice was served’. If that’s the case, what more are you wanting, at this point? Bottom-line this, please.

You claimed Rosebud, KK and people like me are trying to supplant John Dehlin and be the new face(s) of ex-Mormonism.

You were wrong. Take the L.
No, you take the l, Sparky. We had you pegged a long time ago. What you want is immaterial. You willingly carry the water for Rosebud and KK, and you’re a fool for doing it. That’s the big L. And it’s all yours. You have tied yourself to them with hundreds of posts here and elsewhere. It’s sad, but it is what it is.

These guys hate Dehlin and they want him to suffer. If they can make him suffer, that makes them happy.

And it’s funny to see jpatterson here to crow about his unsubstantiated victories. What a pathetic little weasel.

Think about it. He posts here under his own name to claim—without evidence—that he is responsible for the IRS fining Dehlin.

But no! He doesn’t want personal notoriety. He doesn’t need credit. He’s not out to stick it to Dehlin. He’s just a white knight fighting for truth and justice.

What a joke.

Fair question.

The problem for me is how John completely misrepresents himself and never takes accountability for the people his actions affect.

If, as you say, we’re to assume that John and/or Open Stories Foundation was fined and found at fault, their “commitment to transparency” wouldn’t that require that they disclose this to their audiences and especially their donors, and to publicly apologize? John purports to be fully transparent but in reality, he’s only as transparent as the law requires. If you can’t walk the walk, stop talking the talk.

I would really just like John at some point to be honest first with himself and second with his audiences. Personally, I think his many offenses rise to the level that most ethical non-profits would show him the door. But I’m willing to concede not everyone shares this opinion or would take it that far.

Win, lose or draw John Dehlin sure has a bunch of butt-hurt critics.

Even Dan Peterson is getting in on it. Wow, Dehlin made $200,000 last year! I picked the wrong line of work!”

Never mind that Dehlin started in 2005. Try spreading his total salary over the total number of years he has been working on his podcast and see what number pops out.

I can guarantee you Peterson made more money being an apologist shill.
