I echo that. What makes you think he skipped Hamblin's funeral?
He said so on Sic et Non. He had plans to visit his family in Florida when Hamblin passed and said he couldn't cancel them for the funeral. (ETA didn't see IHAQ's post until after I posted this)
Maybe it's the Mormon thing about not being too sad at funerals because it shows a lack of faith. For DCP maybe attending the funeral shows a lack of faith?
Myth is misused by the powerful to subjugate the masses all too often.
As with most things, DCP seldom tells the whole story.
The truth is that Bill Hamblin and DCP weren’t very close at the time of Bill’s passing.
Bill had just gone through a rather contentious divorce and DCP (and especially DCP’s wife Deborah) tended to side with Bill’s ex-wife. After Bill remarried, Deborah/DCP’s relationship with Bill was pretty nonexistent.
In fact, there was a post on SeN recently where DCP refers to Bill’s ex-wife as Bill’s widow, instead of the proper term of ex-wife. It’s like DCP refuses to acknowledge that Bill had remarried and had a new family.
Also, Bill was largely inactive after his divorce which probably had a chilling effect on his relationship with DCP.

Hamblin inactive? DCP wasn't that close to his inactive "friend?" Weren't they writing the DN column together at the time of Hamblin's passing?

Yes, as far as I know, Bill was still "writing" the DN column at the time of his death.
In fact, the monthly salary from the Dnews was a source of contention in Bill's public divorce filings. Bill ultimately was awarded the full amount of his monthly Dnews salary.

Were there allegations of unfaithfulness? I could see someone like DCP leaving his friend if that happened.
Do you know why Hamblin went inactive?

I'd hazard a guess that the interaction with Jenkins, and his colleagues lack of support during that discussion, won't have strengthened his testimony.

One can imagine that the public thrashing Jenkins gave Hamblin, and Mormon foundational truth claims in general, didn't help either.

One would not be remiss either of remembering Hamblin's very bitter acrimonious comments about the BYU Board of Directors telling Hamblin's boss to tell Hamblin they won't pay him for writing apologetic materials, and for defending the Book of Mormon. The Board of Directors are, of course, the 12 Apostles of Mormonism. They didn't want time wasted on finding authenticity of the Book of Mormon! That could very easily have soured Hamblin, and quite properly so. When the Brethren no longer want authenticity in the Book of Mormon to be foremost, then all is just simply not by any stretch of the imagination well in Zion.
Hamblin may have withdrawn into his quest for the single shard of Nephite pottery. Wonder if Midgley was under the misapprehension that Dr. Colvin was hiding this single shard of Nephite pottery in her New Zealand ward?
