Right now Russians are worrying about mobilization and we are worrying about the Republican desire to end democracy.

Maybe you should join the Russians since you both are so fond of global democratic socialism and your shared belief that if people were to vote for capitalism and free markets that this would constitute the destruction of democracy.
And when the Confederates saw Jackson standing fearless like a stonewall, the army of Northern Virginia took courage and drove the federal army off their land.

If you were not so right-wing, I would observe that you were in left field. Join a country where Putin and Trump are joined at the hip, Ha!

Are you sure? Lenin's country should be a regular Zion for you with social welfare benefits so robust there would be no more poverty. You would marvel at their green public transportation and universal healthcare. You should head over there and check it out. Then you wouldn't risk being pushed back into the work force by those mean MAGA Repbublicans.

Not sure even those Repbublicans would push people in my age group. It would take too many Fox viewers away from their TVs.

You need to credit the Scandanavian countries, not Russia. Russia is more on the order of Repbublicans.

Not if we eliminate the social security tax for people over 67.

CNN: What shape are Russia’s nuclear weapons in?

De Bretton-Gordon: This is difficult to tell for certain, but my assumption is that Russia’s strategic weapons and ICBMs are probably in good condition and always ready. It is only Russia’s strategic nuclear weapons which now give it parity with the US and NATO militarily, so I expect them to be well looked after.

But this is likely not the case for the tactical weapons. The warheads and missiles are probably in reasonable condition but the vehicles they are mounted on are, I believe and have on good authority, in poor condition. Judging by the state of the rest of the Russian Army equipment on show in Ukraine, this is a fair assumption.
I have no idea how nuclear scenarios are developed, but let's say that Ukraine attacks areas of the Donbas that have been annexed by Russia. Putin can claim that this is an existential threat to Russia, but I would imagine that there is a lot of backchannel communication that is going on between not only people in the government, but also the oligarchs that support Putin. Those folks know that the first use of nuclear weapons is not the best of all possible scenarios. A Russia without the Ukrainian territory conquered is the Russia that existed before. What Putin is worried about is his own existence. It's hard for Putin to say he is defending the Russian Motherland when Russian citizens are leaving the Russian Motherland by the tens thousands to avoid fighting for the Russian Motherland. Russia's population has been shrinking since the dissolution of the Soviet Union, but with the massive call up Putin is losing the men he would need AFTER the war to restore Russia. And a healthy percentage of those that DO go will be ripe for mutiny if it feels like a death march.

History doesn't repeat itself, but it rhymes. The Soviet Government, through which Vladimir Putin rose to prominence, came to power after a revolution which was precipitated by the the inept execution of a disasterous war by an out of touch Oligarchy.
The great problem of any civilization is how to rejuvenate itself without rebarbarization.
