Wikipedia to delete article on DCP's friend

If there wasn’t so much rampant persecution of Latter Day Saints then surely every BYU professor and lecturer would have their own Wikipedia page.

Makes him look like a polygamist. Yeah, the Wiki entry is not all that good, and it's not Gary's fault.

He didn’t hang about finding a new wife on each occasion. And yes, he was sealed to them all so he be will expecting to be a polygamist in the next life.

I’m interested that BYU chose to omit the marriage to Cheri Lee from his biography. Why do that?

Have you heard of Gary P. Gillum? Neither has anyone else. Thus, wikipedia is of the mind to delete his wikipedia article because he is not noteworthy enough by their standards of noteworthiness.

What is his main claim to fame? He "compiled bibliographies of works in Mormon Studies as well as the works of Hugh Nibley."

What does DCP have to say about this outrage?

Gary Gillum was a friend of mine during his long tenure in the BYU Library. He's a very nice man, and a pleasant fellow.

It's absurd for anybody to try to delete the Wikipedia article on him.

He searches for any semblance of persecution and then wraps it around himself, like a warm blanket, from which he can issue volumes of erudite retorts to entertain his several readers. He is in a constant battle of right against wrong, and if there is no battle to found, he'll invent one.

In the 1970 movie "Patton", German Captain Steiger remarked that the absence of war would destroy U.S. General George Patton. Perhaps it's not too much of an exaggeration to compare DCP to Patton when it comes to Mopologetics. It's the battle and the controversy that animates him and without them, he may feel in danger of fading away from relevancy.

You hit the nail on the head. DCP has always been in it for the fight, and has admitted as much when he recounts how much he enjoyed his Bible bashing days during his mission.

I have a local friend who has a kind of small historical celebrity in the DIY music and second wave industrial music scenes of the '80s. He is the kind of guy who appears in books now and then, has appeared on public radio shows, and gets requests for interviews from authors and students working on their dissertations. I tried to write a Wikipedia article for him about a decade ago and it got dinged for the same thing. As his profile and "notability" has slowly grown, i.e. there are more publications quoting him and more books mentioning his work, he has actually landed a Wikipedia page.

As much as I thought Gillum was a decent bloke, I don't think he rates as highly as my friend, and honestly I am surprised my friend finally broke through to "notability."

Perhaps, one day, if there are scholars who start to do more serious work on the FARMS phenomenon, like, say, outside of the Mormon bubble, then Gillum will be considered notable. Maybe the issue is that there are other BYU people roughly as notable or, shall we say, non-notable as Gillum who have pages.
