The Mountain Meadow Massacre, a dark day
A tragic event that can never be erased
From the annals of history and our collective memory
A moment of violence, of hate and of infamy
In 1857, a group of settlers
Was traveling through the Utah territory
On their way to California, to start anew
But their journey came to a terrible end, it's true
A group of Mormon militiamen
Attacked and killed the travelers, and then
Placed the blame on the Native Americans nearby
A lie that would be exposed, and the truth would soon be nigh
The truth finally came out, the perpetrators were found
But the damage had been done, and many lives were downed
The Mountain Meadow Massacre, a blemish on the land
A reminder of the dangers of hate and misunderstanding's hand

Write a poem about the Mountain Meadow Massacre.
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."

Write a poem about Joseph Smith and Fanny Alger.
Joseph Smith and Fanny Alger, two names from the past
Their story one of love, but also of controversy at last
Fanny was a maid in Joseph's household, it is said
Their relationship, a secret, hidden under wraps
Some say it was a true love, a bond that couldn't be broken
Others claim it was a violation, a transgression unspoken
Regardless of the truth, their story is now part of history
A tale of love and scandal, shrouded in mystery
Joseph Smith, the founder of the Mormon faith
His teachings and revelations, a path
To a new and better way of living
Fanny Alger, a woman caught in the midst of giving
Their story now a footnote, a piece of the past
But the love they shared, it will forever last
In the hearts of those who remember
The tale of Joseph and Fanny, forever inember
"I'm on paid sabbatical from BYU in exchange for my promise to use this time to finish two books."
