Which restoration narrative? That also makes a difference. Some may subscribe to other ideas of what the restoration was. Others may have different views on the succession. So, it is not all that simple really. It may be simple to you, MG 2.0, because of your particular beliefs, but other have ideas that seem just as valid to them. So, you can believe in revelation and the restoration and yet not agree with your particular conclusions about the leadership of the LDS Church.

As I’ve mentioned on this board repeatedly…if you count in the old board…I think that fruits matter. Compare the fruits in the way Jesus prescribed in the New Testament. The CofJCofLDS bears the fruit necessary to bring the largest number of souls into the household of faith and Kingdom of God.

And even at that the numbers are small. Narrow is the way and few there be that find it.

So if you do believe in revelation and the restoration narrative it seems highly unlikely that the fruits of other restoration churches provide the necessary outcomes and means to bring that gospel to all the world.

MG
so... the narrative that brings "the largest number of souls into the household of faith and Kingdom of God" is the one that's true?

I’ll leave that up to your determination.

At the end of the day that’s what really matters. What YOU think.

I bolded the part I am asking about. So, again, are you saying the narrative that brings "the largest number of souls into the household of faith and Kingdom of God" is the one that's true?

If we are talking about the restoration movement and the spin offs of the work Joseph Smith was directly involved with, yes.

But again, you would have to make that determination on your own. I’m simply telling you what I think.

so... of the churches that believe Smith restored something, the one with the most members is true?

So, it's not the fruits as described by Jesus in the New Testament?

This is like saying Star Trek is better than Star Wars because the Star Wars characters would never survive in a Star Trek Universe.

With a weird variation of the logical fallacy known as argumentum ad populum thrown in:
Appeal to Common Belief
argumentum ad populum

Description: When the claim that most or many people in general or of a particular group accept a belief as true is presented as evidence for the claim. Accepting another person’s belief, or many people’s beliefs, without demanding evidence as to why that person accepts the belief, is lazy thinking and a dangerous way to accept information.

From my point of view the Community of Christ has abundant fruits. Other, smaller restoration branches do too. Take the Snuffer group for example. I think all of these groups come from the restoration; they belong to the restoration. They just differ on the necessity of following LDS leaders.

I don't remember now where I read it, but in a discussion about how LGBTQ+ people should be accepted better by the LDS, someone said, dismissively: "Then they would end up just like the CoC". I thought to myself (since I cannot yet think to anyone else): "That might not be a bad thing!"

The question I ask myself is just HOW narrow is the way and just HOW few enter onto the correct path to make this pronouncement found in the teachings of Jesus believable or RELEVANT in today’s world?

The CofJCofLDS has an outreach far and above any other of the restoration movements, albeit a small footprint (few there be) in the world at large.

In my view the CofJCofLDS bears the fruits at a scale that makes a real difference (a little leaven) in the world at large compared to the other restoration movements.

You may think that is of no or little consequence. That is your prerogative.

Would Mormons really welcome a revelation?
This answer to this question is dependent, at least as far as I can see, on whether or not one believes in revelation from God (number 1) and whether or not one believes that the restoration narrative holds water (number 2).

Then there’s this:

We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.
It’s not rocket science.

MG
Good point - something else we can agree on.

You see, rocket science is reality-based, and has tangible and repeatable results that do not depend on a god, or on a particular set of beliefs. If someone who disbelieves in rocket science fires off a rocket and follows its trajectory, they get exactly the same results as someone who does believe in rocket science. Day after day.

Revelation is definitely not rocket science!
