That one time John Dehlin talked about his wife's sex life

Post by jpatterson »

Since John Dehlin just declared...again...that he's never acted inappropriately with anyone associated with his non-profit and anyone who accuses him otherwise is part of an LDS Church Fair Game Conspiracy, here are some screen shots of him talking about his personal sexual proclivities and even his wife's sexual preferences with an Open Stories volunteer back in 2010/2011.

jpatterson, I’ve deleted the images under UR7. The link above can remain if folks want to read the conversation offsite, as Rosebud - presumably the other party in that conversation - is free to share them at her site. -cp-

If you really want to experience John at his most Dehlin, read these texts while listening to the episode where John interviews Margi.

It’s really something.

for what it's worth, I've read the entire document linked, and my observation is that John spends hundreds and hundreds of texts slowly introducing more and more intimate conversation, to the point where when he brings up sex to this Open Stories Foundation volunteer, she is taken off guard and expresses her discomfort, but also has been desensitized enough to John's forward behavior that she doesn't outright ask him to stop.

Also consider the significant power imbalance that existed between the two. A volunteer at the mercy of the head of the non-profit who controls her work. She was not in a position to do anything more than "laugh off" his inappropriate behavior if she wanted to keep participating in the NP.

This behavior is specifically listed in the Open Stories Foundation handbook as being defined as sexual harassment. A fact he leaves out of this yearly innocence rant.

Is there much more to say about the rosebud case that hasn’t already been said? I think she wants to move past it, and it seems like she has actually finally done that.

Gross.

James,

Out of curiosity, what would you like to see happen with JD’s podcast, or perhaps more specifically JD’s career in podcasting?

- Doc
Hiring a part-time news entertainment anchor as SecDef, what could go wrong?

I would like him to be honest with his donors and listeners and not lie to them about never having been sexually inappropriate with a volunteer and staffer. And I don't think that's asking much.

I agree. Which is why John should stop publicly gaslighting her every year at about this time.

Here's a text from the same volunteer, who was at this time a compensated volunteer for Open Stories Foundation, asking John to back off:

As above, removed; UR7. -cp-

Imagine a non-profit volunteer asking the Executive Director to leave her alone romantically, being told "That just makes me want you more" and then that same Executive Director years later claiming he's never acted inappropriately with women who work for him.

In the community of former Mormons, John is spoken of and revered in the same way that God would be. Ex-Mormons generously pay him for providing them with what they desire, and he does so without hesitation. They don't care if he lies about his sexual life or if he has extramarital affairs. They don't care if he harasses women because they need their daily dose of Mormon bashing, and John can give it to them better than anyone else. Ex-Mormons need their daily fix of Mormon bashing. Ex-Mormons are provided with a form of therapy by individuals such as John and RFM. Listening to these individuals provides a welcome distraction from the never-ending struggle to determine whether or not leaving Mormonism was the best choice. Therefore, what John and RFM provide is analogous to a drug, and they are well aware that the more they criticize Mormons, the more financial gain they will experience as a result.
